The Evolution of 3 Architects

Presented by
Jonathan Parks AIA
Joyce Owens AIA RIBA
Jerry Sparkman AIA NCARB

Three Gulf Coast architects will each present a project from their early professional life as well as
a recent one, followed by an analysis of the contrast and how their development as an
architect
influenced the changes
. The remarkable evolution of thei
r careers will be illustrated by what they’ve
learned from the design-build process, working with clients,
listening to critiques and finding the
inspirati
on that has motivated them to be who they are today. A panel discussion and Q+A will follow
the presentations.

Warm Mineral Springs Update

On Thursday, March 20th, the City of North Port held a special meeting for amendments to future plans for Warm Mineral Springs (WMS). The City of North Port is now in agreement with Sarasota County to develop the land. Five citizens headed by Bill Ange are submitting a referendum to change the City Charter so that any future changes to WMS must be approved by the public by referendum. Current zoning allows for commercial and residential uses, the referendum would change zoning to passive park use.

Steps continue to be taken to gain local designation for the buildings on the site including the Cyclorama (shown above) designed by architect Jack West, and the Victor Lundy-designed Warm Mineral Springs Motel. West and Lundy are original members of the Sarasota School of Architecture. For further information, click for Herald-Tribune article link.

Saturday, April 12th, Warm Mineral Springs will reopen for swimming only. Florida's only warm springs has been closed since July 1, 2013.
