The reproductive health, rights and justice movement depends on a new breed of leader, ready to think and practice innovation.

The CoreAlign Generative Fellowship connects and cultivates the next generation of innovative movement builders and leaders. Innovation comes from disrupting habits, reframing questions, debate and dissent, and learning from other fields. The myth of innovation is that one idea appears that suddenly changes the game. It actually takes a collection of many failed iterations of multiple innovative concepts. The Generative Fellowship is about supporting and nurturing innovators and a culture of innovation.

Today we are highlighting three of our 2014 Generative Fellows. To learn more about all of our fellows visit our website!

MELISSA MADERA
Location: New York, New York

Project Description
For many people abortion happens in isolation.  It is not always feasible for people to talk to their family members, friends or partners about the abortion they’ve had, the ones they are considering, or how they feel about abortion. What if millions of people broke their silence and told the truth about their lives and their choices? The Abortion Diary Podcast  is the intersection of self-expression, healing, and the art of storytelling and listening.

Project Description
What is the human right to health and how can this concept support and strengthen the reproductive justice movement in the US?  Drawing from recent examples in the international HIV/AIDS and sexual and reproductive health movements, I am interested in identifying practical and innovative ways that reproductive justice activists can use community-led monitoring, research and documentation for organizing and advocacy.

Project Description
My project seeks to examine philanthropy’s role in supporting innovative projects and a culture of innovation in the movement for sexual and reproductive health, rights and justice.  As CoreAlign and other organizations and leaders consider new strategies, tactics, partnerships and messages to strengthen the movement, philanthropy can play an important role to facilitate, but it can also create barriers to new and creative models or approaches.
