Chairman’s Letter to Members

Dear Members of the Park Tennis Club,

Thank you for your continued membership and support, without you and the continued hard work of the committee there would be no club. We are a members only organisation, members are important to us.

We realise everything is not perfect at the club, but we will only get closer to the ideal if everyone participates and comes up with ideas for improvement

We are publishing on the web site, our photos and responsibilities, so you can button hole us down at the club or Email us. Dan has sorted out the digital side and there is only one email address for all of us and the same for the club. He has also sorted out a new box league and a ladder. We are going to open the bar regularly on a Friday so that after tennis members who wish can socialise.

The teams have all been promoted so we need lots of practice to continue to progress.

Our head coach, Carlton, is continuing his physiotherapy to get back to coaching at some point in the future, and Jean is working hard to keep the club coaching programme running. We are very fortunate that two of our best players will be helping Jean with coaching. A big thank you to Patrick Foley and James Saunders. Patrick will be belting the ball at us for three months as well as representing the club before he pursues his career in sport at university. We also hope to see more of his father, Andrew (immediate past chairman), who, with a bit of luck, will be around more this year. We have a full programme of events, tournaments and matches; please support these and your team captains. We are introducing, on Sunday, when the courts are under used, a number of tournaments run by Make, and again we hope that you will enter even though the standard will be quite high. These will be run on a commercial basis and the club will get a share of the profit. The recent trial weekend went well and it was great to see the club full on a Sunday afternoon.

We are also publishing a summary of weekly activities which will include court priorities. Clearly matches will take priority but there should always be courts available for members. Tournaments matches and events will all be published on one site.

I am delighted and relieved to report that Madeleine Davis has recruited a Secretary, Roger Harrison, who is an architect and lives in West Bridgford. He has acted as Secretary to a Housing Association in London so he understands what he is taking on.

Marianne Boerrigter has volunteered to be bar manager taking over from Barrie who has kept the whole thing going for the last few years. Thanks Barrie!!!! and a very big welcome Marianne.

Gudrun Sowerby planted and has maintained the shrubs at the rear of the deck which are already making this area more pleasant as well as helping wildlife in the Park by providing berries and flowers for insects. The Park Residents Association instigated and paid for this scheme. All in all a wonderful team effort, We have agreed to maintain it. Thanks everybody.

Thank you all once again for your support and continued membership.

Bob Cullen

Additional Considerations
Matches

Matches often take place on a Sunday afternoon from 1.30pm-5.00pm
Matches may take place on some weekday evenings from 6.30pm. Courts 1-3 Matches may take place on some Friday evenings from 6.30pm. Courts 1-3.

School Holiday Coaching Camps
School Holiday Coaching Camps take place on up to 8 occasion’s per year. These Coaching Camps run on a weekday between 10am and 3.00pm, normally over 2 days. Courts 1-3
On these occasions, members who usually play on the artificial grass on a weekday morning need to schedule to finish play or move across to another court by 10.15am. There will be one artificial grass court made available on a Thursday and Friday from 1.30pm for Social/Members to play on.

Notts LTA Usage
The Nott’s Lta use our courts on a number of days each year as part of the terms of our lease.
On six Saturday afternoons through the winter season, they use Courts 4-6 between 12.30-4pm for their Mini Tennis League.
The last week of August is the Nott’s County Closed and the Nott’s Lta usually require ‘first call’ on all our courts from (Bank holiday) Monday through to Saturday from 9-5pm. The clubhouse is also required.
The Nott’s LTA sometimes have additional requirements during their tournament weeks.

Club Open Day

Sunday 18 May

This year, our open day will be part of the LTA's initiative to get more people to play tennis. Club members, please come along and participate in the event, and encourage our visitors to join the club. More details will be available soon, but do email us if you are interested in helping on the day.
HELPERS WANTED - We need a 'working party' of members willing to lend a hand with clearing some heavy items at the clubhouse on Friday 11th April at 5:30pm. This just happens to coincide with our first CLUB NIGHT, so you could have a nice refreshment at the bar following a bit of lifting! Also, bring your kit if you fancy a game of tennis too! Bar opens at 6.30, working party to start at 5:30.

Membership Shoe Tags

As a club we have reviewed whether we need to continue with tags at all and decided that they are still very useful. They make identifying members very simple and help us to prevent non-members from abusing the club. Therefore you should wear your new tags when you receive them in the new membership year. We are having a real push on this because we feel that some people sneak in and use the courts without membership;  so you should all feel free to challenge anybody that you see playing without tags.

Visitors Fees

Visitors are more than welcome when they are accompanied by a member, and they can play on up to 4 occasions by just paying the visitors fee. If they wish to continue to use the club, then it is reasonable for them to join.

The visitors fees are :

Adults:

  • Weekdays £3
  • Weekends £4

Students and Juniors:

  • Weekdays £2
  • Weekends £3
There are envelopes in the door of the clubhouse for fees and they should be deposited through the slot in the front of the bar.

Membership Renewal for 2014/15

The membership renewal for the club falls due at the end of March. You can download the form from our web site here. For what is likely to be the final time the fees are once again retained at the same level as last year and they are detailed on the reverse of the form, together with the early ( by 30th April ) payment discount.

Wimbledon Tickets

You will have received an email already - but just to remind you to let Barrie know if you want to be entered into the ballot by Friday 25 April. The draw will be at the clubhouse on Saturday 26 April. Click here to email Barrie.
