Thrift Shoppers - The Next Generation
$ 165,781 Donated to the community since August 2013.
Operated by volunteers, supported by the community, serving those in need.
A New Crop of Donors . . .
and Customers
Bright and early one Wednesday morning last month, we had a visit from one of the Kindergarten/First Grade classes from Summers/Knoll School. They had recently held a clothing drive in their class and the kids & families voted to make the Thrift Shop the recipient of the donated goods. (One of the parents had written a glowing recommendation about our shop). The kids all arrived before the shop opened for business, each one carrying their bag of items to donate. They each student carefully signed our donation book and then went on a tour of the shop. They were adorable! And very proud to donate.

P.S. We understand, the talk during the ride back on the school bus was all about wanting their parents to take them shopping at the Thrift Shop!

Easing the Burden
for a Family in Need
The Thrift Shop was able to help a single mother, who has several children and relies on Social Security disability insurance. She was behind in the rent because her ex-husband had not provided any child support for several months.  This mother had taken two part-time jobs and finally paid off all her back rent but was then hit with an unexpected $220 back rent penalty fee that she didn't have the money to pay.  When she heard from her caseworker* that the Thrift Shop would pay that fee for her she burst into tears of gratitude.

The efforts of our donors and customers really do make a big difference in people’s lives.

* PLEASE REMEMBER: All requests for Thrift Shop assistance must come through an approved Social Work professional and are not handled at the store level.

De-Cluttering Suggestion

Do you have items around your house you have been meaning to donate, but keep forgetting? Here's a tip for easily taming the clutter.

Find a corner in your closet to store a tote bag or box dedicated to Thrift Shop donations. Then, whenever you run across an item of clothing or housewares that you no longer need or want, toss it in.
When the bag is full, bring it in to the Shop and we will give you a donation receipt to use at tax time.
