  May 2014
Welcome to our May 2014 email newsletter
I am delighted to welcome you to the May e-newsletter from Baildon Town Council.

May is always an important month for the Town Council. May marks the start of the “new year” when the Councillors elect the Chair and Vice-Chair for the coming year, and when Councillors take up membership of the various committees which oversee the Council’s work. May is also the month when we invite you to the annual town meeting at which we will present the Annual Report on the work of the Town Council over the past year. We also let you know of plans for the future, and listen to any issues you wish to raise with us.

The Baildon Town Meeting, this year, will be held on Thursday 29 May at 7.30pm in the Ian Clough Hall (with light refreshments and musical entertainment from the Ukelele Club from 7.00pm). This meeting will also provide an opportunity to celebrate the fantastic range of voluntary and community work which goes on in Baildon, and the excellent service we get from our local businesses – all of which contribute to making Baildon such a lovely place to live. Our special guest speaker will be Susan Howson, Bradford’s Senior Tourism Officer, who will talk about how Bradford Council’s Tourism Department can help to promote Baildon as a Visitor Destination and support local shops and businesses. Further down in this newsletter you will find the full agenda for this meeting. I do hope that many of you will be able to come along – and please pass on the invitation to any friends or neighbours who may not otherwise be aware of the meeting. It is an occasion when we can all “be community” together.

I look forward to meeting up with many of you at the Annual Town Meeting. Until then, please take a look at the rest of this newsletter to read about recent activities and forthcoming events.

With best wishes

Chris Flecknoe
Chair of Baildon Town Council
Ferniehurst Dell Trim Trail Open Day - big success!
Thanks to all those who helped to make Ferniehurst Dell Trim Trial Open Day (Wednesday 16th April) such a fantastic event!

Thanks to: Bradford Council which gave permission for the Trim Trail to be installed on Bradford Council's land; Ferniehurst Dell Improvement Partnership which came up with the idea for a Trim Trail at Ferniehurst and which played a major part in organising the day; Cllr Ian Lyons who led the project on behalf of the Town Council which funded the Trim Trail; Bradford play, sport and fitness staff who provided lots of activities on the day; HALE who brought along the mobile unit and provided health related activities, and to all those of you who turned up on the day and helped to make it such a lovely family event.

Pictured on the left, the Town Council's Environmental Warden supervising children on the inflatable assault course - probably the most popular activity of the day! Thanks Mark.

Pictured on the right (left to right): Cllr Chris Flecknoe Chair of Baildon Town Council who opened the event; Cllr Kathy Andrews, Cllr Lesley Brook and Cllr Ian Lyons, members of the Council's Health and Youth Committee through which the Town Council funded the Trim Trail; and in the forefront, Danielle Crossfield, representative of Playdale which provided and installed the equipment.
Baildon Carnival 2014 planning update
Plans are well under way for the Baildon Carnival which will take place on Saturday 12th July 2.0pm - 4.0pm.

Baildon Carnival welcomes stalls and activities from community organisations and local businesses. There is no charge for a pitch, but donations to Carnival funds are welcome. All donations are reinvested into the local community. Stallholders may sell goods and charge for games if they choose.

Stallholders are responsible for erecting and removing their own stalls. These can be erected between 10.0am and 1.0pm on the day and must be removed completely from the site between 4.0pm and 6.0pm. Pitches will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. Motor vehicles are not allowed on the fields; please park these responsibly and walk onto the site.

The following products (which will be made available on the day through the Carnival Committee) cannot be served or sold on the community or local business stalls: hot food, ice cream, candyfloss and alcohol. Please do not include these in any stall.

Entry programmes for the event will go on sale in June at venues to be confirmed in the next newsletter.

For more details please contact Cllr Joe Ashton on 07989692677 or joe.ashton@baildontowncouncil.gov.uk.

FUTURE EVENTS
The Baildon Plan

The Town Council has decided it is time to update The Baildon Plan.

The work of the Town Council over the past three years has been very much underpinned by the aspirations and priorities of local residents, as set out in The Baildon Plan. This Plan was adopted in spring 2011 and you can find a copy of this Plan on the Town Council website.

Baildon Town Council has now decided to consult you again in a structured way, about your priorities and ideas for the future well-being of Baildon and its community. More information about this will be given at the Annual Town Meeting, and a survey will be available both on-line and in paper form throughout June and July. Please look out for this and complete the survey.
Might you be interested in standing for election to the Town Council?

Next year, at this time, the four-year term of office for all the current Town Councillors will come to an end. Elections for all six Wards that make up the Baildon Town Council area, will be held next May.

Please start considering now whether you might be interested to stand for election to the Town Council in 12 months time!

If you would like to know more about what is involved, just ask any of the Councillors or talk to Jean Yule, Town Clerk.
