A Note From Denise...

Welcome to our first Hub Newsletter. We have been so overwhelmed by your responses that we thought we had better get the first publication out early. Don't worry if you haven't got your contributions to us yet - the next issue will be when we said this one would be so it's not too late. Contact Jenni at Jennifer.Cable@southwark.gov.uk. Included in this issue is a member's profile from Multi-Story - a fantastic project bringing music to unexpected places. We also hear about recent events from Southbank Sinfonia, The Charter School and  Notre Dame. Do check out the Notice Board to see if you can help with anything as well. It has been lovely to hear about all of the wonderful events happening in the hub and hope that this is a useful publication for all. We would love to hear your views on the newsletter so do let us know what you think.

SUCCESS!

Southbank Sinfonia are delighted to say that their first free key stage 2 concert has been a great success. These events are a new innovation in their continued quest to provide exciting and accessible opportunities to local schools and they complement the tailored education projects they run annually in a number of Southwark and Lambeth primary schools.

On 13th February they presented a fairy tale exploration of the magical kingdom of Beethoven 4 to approximately 120 year 4 children.

SUCCESS!

The Charter School Jazz band are going from strength to strength performing recently at the Music For Youth regionals, the 'All that Jazz' annual concert at JAGS & in a charity concert at St. Faith's Red Post Hill supporting schools in Haiti to buy musical instruments. Students from Y7 & Y8 recently participated in a 'Glee' day at Dulwich college with students from across the borough. Y10 Music students took a trip to the 'Musical Snapshots' concert organised by the London Sinfonietta & were thoroughly inspired, subsequently working confidently on their compositions!

The Charter School Choir will be performing at Ruskin park in June & at the More London Riverside in July as part of a summer concert series. They will be hosting an inaugural Jazz concert in the summer term showcasing their most popular form of music.

SUCCESS!

The Notre Dame School hosted their annual International Evening on March 21st. Students and staff shared their skills and talents through music, dance and poems from France, Portugal, Nigeria, Jamaica, Bulgaria, Ireland, China, Rwanda, Congo, Egypt, Mexico, USA, UK, Germany, Russia, Canada and Australia, wearing traditional costume.

Parents brought a wide variety of delicious food to share in the extended interval, and a raffle with lots of great prizes was drawn.

The audience also took part by learning and singing a song from South Africa.

A great evening was had by all, performers and audience!
