Feeling Stressed?!
SAC wants to help!

Tom Koloc from LifeSolutions will be conducting an interactive session on stress mindfulness.  The meeting will touch on strategies to be more present and intentional in our daily actions.  Most of us spend much of our time on "auto-pilot" and tend to react rather than consciously asking "what is my best course of action now?"  This session will introduce participants to hands on ways to break these cycles.  You can contact LifeSolutions directly by calling 1-866-647-3432.

Soldiers & Sailors Museum Tour

Thursday, June 26th, 2014
Noon

Pitt staff are invited to a special tour of one of the finest assets in the midst of our Oakland campus, Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall.  The tour will take less than an hour.  Admission for SAC members is $5, for all others $10.

Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum Trust, Inc. is the nation’s only military museum dedicated to honoring the men and women of all branches of service, and in all capacities (Active, Reserve, Guard). The historic building was designed by renowned architect Henry Hornbostel and has exhibits covering all of America’s conflicts. The museum offers a unique look into American history by telling the stories of the individuals that served our country through military equipment and personal mementos.

Within this stately structure are more than forty exhibits, a concert hall that seats 2300 guests, a classically elegant ballroom, The Gettysburg Room dedicated to the Civil War and the Hall of Valor which pays tribute to American heroes. Soldiers & Sailors provides a rich learning experience for all people by exploring the deeds and sacrifices of ordinary citizens during extraordinary circumstances. For more information, click here.

SAC Member Profile: Meet Kenny!
James (Kenny) Doty works in the Swanson School of Engineering as a Lead Analyst for Distance Learning and Technology Services.  He has worked in this department for nine years.
Currently, Kenny manages the technology for the Distance Learning Program as well as the Digital Signage and Service Desk. He also supports the offices for the Dean, Associate Deans and the Administration for the Swanson School.
How long has he been a member of SAC and what committee is he a part of?  Kenny has been a member of SAC for eight years.  He is currently the Chair of the Health, Safety, Information Technology, and Transportation Committee. He previously served on the Safety and Security Committee and spent a few years as co-chair of that committee.  In addition, Kenny is a part of the Senate Computer Usage Committee and the Board of Trustees Risk and Compliance Committee.
Why did he join SAC?  Kenny says that he joined SAC “in an effort to help fellow staff members have a voice. “  When he joined, he was one of the youngest members.  He said that he wanted to make sure that all staff members were being represented.
What does he like best about SAC?  â€œThe inclusion and willingness to help has greatly increased in recent years. That is one of the most important components of the SAC community.”
What is his vision on how SAC can impact the University?    â€œI think that SAC can continue to positively impact the University in many ways. SAC members have seats on all Senate and Board of Trustees committees. This allows our members to have a voice at even the highest levels of the University. We most recently even had our current president, Rich Colwell, take part in selecting the new Chancellor. As long as SAC continues to have good, well-motivated, hard-working members joining our ranks, we will always be able to make a difference in the lives of all staff members.”

April Brown Bag Series:
Medical Benefits

The Staff Association Council hosted a Brown Bag event discussing Medical Benefits in late April at the William Pitt Union. Over 80 attendees were educated on the options of Medical Benefit plans available to staff and faculty.   The 3.5% increase in costs relayed to Pitt employees came in the face of an 8% increase in costs to the University.  The Staff Association Council would like to thank John Kozar, Vice Chancellor of Benefits, for leading the seminar.
