PROGRAMME WEEK 1 ♦ MAY 1-7, 2014


A rapturous MPA-B 2014 OPENING STREET FIESTA in the heart of Kreuzberg's May Day celebrations; the MPA-HUB INAUGURATION with a prestigious display of objects which will be used in performances during the month of May; a 10 hour-long performative reading of Derrida's THE ANIMAL THAT THEREFORE I AM; performances in the public space where artists perform entrapped within a CLOSED WHITE CUBE OF 8m³; a day-long research project into whether BELIEF in performance art can be anything other than a hypothetical construction; and a worldwide PERFORMANCE AUCTION selling Live Art to the highest bidder via ebay....these are just some of the projects in the 1st WEEK of the MONTH OF PERFORMANCE ART-BERLIN 2014.

THURSDAY MAY 1 >> FULL PROGRAMME

This performance takes as its starting point the ten-hour-long conference held in 1997 by Jacques Derrida. A collective performance based on a reading of Derrida’s text with Francesca Romana Ciardi, Adrian Brun, Luisa Greenfield + more.

Happily and consciously contravene the utilitarian paradigm, the unspoken urge for self-optimisation and the economisation of your lifetime. You are invited to take part in wasting your time together with Julia Gebauer.

A co-habitat laboratory open to all, offering time & space to explore the landscape/environment of the MPA-HUB and its surroundings. Facilitated by Shelley Etkin.

Durational participatory performance in which audience members are encouraged to shake hands with the artist Beth Dillon, which will be filmed from a fixed camera mounted on a tripod and later compiled into a video montage.

Eleven artists from Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Chile, Cuba and Brazil present a series of site-specific performances at various outdoor locations around Berlin, turning the viewers into active contributors to the development of their pieces.

I/IV – DEM GLAUBEN

Belief versus believe versus believing. Based on the premise that "belief" holds a central position within any performance art practice, we want to find out if this belief can be anything other than a hypothetical construction (abstraction).

â—Š PERFORMATIVE LABOUR-ISM 
In the “Performative Labour-ism” project, sixteen artists from Germany, Great Britain, Greece and Iceland, are invited to develop performances and site-specific interventions examining the notions of Labour, Stage and Performance. The premises and public park of the “Centre for Art and Urbanistics” (ZK/U), form the basis for this on-going performative  project which depicts productive embodiments in producing processes.

WEDNESDAY MAY 7 >> FULL PROGRAMME

â—Š LATITUD 32°N/55°S 
Artists from Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Chile, Cuba and Brazil take part in a series of indoor performances at the MPA-B's central venue: the MPA-HUB. As a continuation of their May 6th site-specific performance art event, the artists will take up residence at the MPA-B site along the banks of the river Spree for the entire day to present their performance art works, marked by a diversity of media and styles.
