Move well.    Breathe well.    Be well.

“It is spring again. The earth is like a child that knows poems by heart.”
― Rainer Maria Rilke

Celebrating Spring.

There is something magical about Spring. Amidst the beauty and the rebirth, there is hope and possibility. In the shedding of our warm winter layers, there is a sense of emerging from a cocoon. I recently wore capri pants for the first time this year, and it felt fantastic.

How does Spring impact you? Do you sleep less? Start new projects? Clean your house from top to bottom and clear out things you aren't using any more?

As the practice of yoga deepens, we are more aware of subtle shifts – in our mood, in the environment, in the seasons – and better able to respond to those shifts from an intentional place.

I sense the whispers of Spring encouraging me to stay curious.

What do you hear?

Warmly,
Sarah

Writing from My Blog

I want to share two posts with you this month. The first is a recent post that explores ways to change the way you think.

The second is an older post that I recently stumbled upon. With my wedding only four months away, it feels fitting to share a piece about love.
Taking Care

Spring is the season of cleaning. If cleaning is something you are feeling inspired to do, I encourage you to consider whether you are using cleaning products that actually clean your home or products that spread chemicals and toxins around your home.

Years ago, I used to feel like my kitchen counters weren't really clean until I took a product like Fantastic to them. These days, I am grossed out by the idea of a product like Fantastic getting anywhere near my food. I've experienced a significant paradigm shift around what it means to be clean.

My current favourite homemade cleaner is lemon vinegar. I buy a bag of lemons, squeeze them all, and then freeze the juice to make lemon juice ice cubes (which are amazingly convenient). I put all the lemon peels into a jar, fill it to the top of the peels with vinegar, and then let it sit for a minimum of 2 weeks. Lastly, I mix half lemon vinegar and half water in a spray bottle and use it primarily as a kitchen cleaner.

If you are interested in learning more about making human-friendly cleaning products, David Suzuki's Queen of Green has a great two-page resource for homemade cleaning recipes.

Recommended Read
This book is different from the type of book I normally recommend. I came across it recently. It intrigued me. I started reading it, and I have had a hard time putting it down.

The book has some gimmicky moments, but I've still found myself fascinated by the ideas that Nick Ortner presents in The Tapping Solution. I have already been playing with the techniques outlined in the book, and I like what I feel. I am curious to see what role techniques like tapping (otherwise known as Emotional Freedom Techniques) play in human well-being as we start to better understand the mind-body connection and the role of the nervous system in facilitating our well-being.
Too Much Happiness?

In the past year, I have shared a few books and articles on happiness. It's a topic that is getting a lot of attention lately. The author of the post Are We Too Obsessed with Happiness? suggests that we might be better off focusing on other things â€“ like living in accordance with our values.
Improve Your Intuition

This article outlines 10 Things Highly Intuitive People Do Differently. I'm not sure if they are true or if doing them will make someone more intuitive, but regardless, all ten things strike me as wonderful, soul-nourishing things to do  â€“ so I thought I would share.
Introduction to Pain

More has been learned about the human experience of pain in the last 10 years than in the entire course of human history. As a result of the new knowledge, the approach to treating pain is shifting significantly.

Our intuitive understanding of pain often prevents us from finding relief, so pain education is starting to play a prominent role in treating pain. This video from the Pain Management Network offers a great introduction to pain.
Eating Well

I read a lot of non-fiction books, and one of the subjects I am most drawn to is food and nutrition. There has been a lot of inconsistency in nutritional advice over the years, but I find myself hearing one message consistently:

Eat whole foods, mostly plants.

A friend of mine recently started a food blog, and her first recipe heeds this advice â€“ and it is delicious! If you are looking for an easy, tasty, and healthy recipe, try making this Yam, Quinoa & Coconut Chilli.
