Essential Oil of the Month: PanAway

April is when many people overdo it with yard work, physical fitness, remodeling, and gardening. When it's nice enough to get outside, we push our bodies to get caught up on everything that winter left behind.

For aches, pains, strains, and sprains, PanAway Essential Oil works great. Wintergreen, helichrysm, peppermint and other essential oils help sooth sore muscles, reduce inflammation, decrease spasm and speed up healing. It can take the place of ice, and can be mixed with olive oil to make a soothing massage oil for larger muscle groups.

Weekend Warrior Safety Tips

Dr. Brenda Trudell

It’s springtime once again!  All you can think about is getting outside in the garden, remodeling around the house, or getting back into your sports or workout routine.  While these are all very normal responses to the nice weather, there are some things you need to know to stay safe.

What is a Weekend Warrior? A weekend warrior is 1) A person who participates in a physically strenuous activity only on weekends or part-time, or 2) A homeowner who acts as a contractor and tries to do major improvement projects on weekends (often without understanding the scope of the work to be done).

Either way, both of these situations could lead to injuries and put you on the bench for a long time.

Protect Your Spine While Gardening

Dr. Brenda Trudell

With gardening and yard work season in full swing, many people are doing physical labor every weekend .  From a health standpoint, yard work is one of the most well rounded activities you can do. But it is important to properly prepare your body to avoid injuries so you can pull weeds and not your back.

Gardening and yard work have many health benefits, including prevention of heart disease, obesity, diabetes, and high blood pressure.  It clears your mind after a long stressful day.  It calls for creativity and gives your brain a workout.  Gardening connects you with nature and the natural rhythm of life, allowing you to slow down and relax.  Deep cleansing breaths of fresh air circulate oxygen to your muscles and organs.  Being in sunshine gives you the best source of Vitamin D available. Gardening also provides the freshest and healthiest produce, which provides additional health benefits.
