Rob's Upcoming Shows

April, 2014

4/03 @ JP Licks, Centre St, Jamaica Plain, MA (solo)
4/11 @ Geno's Rock Club, Portland, ME (w/Ardigan)
4/12 @ Greater Boston House Concerts, Dorchester, MA (w/Nedelka Prescod)
4/21 @ Atwood's Tavern, Cambridge, MA (w/Michael Tarbox)

As spring starts, so to does my gigging calendar! Lots of exciting shows in the next month. For starters, my birthday is this coming Thursday, April 3rd! I hope you'll join me at JP Licks on Centre St, where I'll be playing a solo show as part of JP's First Thursdays series.

Then, on April 11th, I'm up in Portland, Maine, with my brand new band, Ardigan! We'll be rocking our faces off at Geno's Rock Club, sharing the bill with Boston-based Sentry and some local Portland acts.

The very next day I'm back in Boston, playing upright bass and tabla with the fabulous singer and dear friend Nedelka Prescod in an intimate house concert setting. Info and tickets available at the Greater Boston House Concerts website, or on Facebook.

April 21st I'll be playing a show with the great Michael Tarbox and the Tarbox Ramblers, at the beloved Cambridge spot, Atwood's Tavern. Michael's "rock, primitive blues and Appalachian music" is a treat for me every time.

There's a good chance more shows will be added this month, so stay tuned for more details! I'll very likely post them on Facebook, but the best way is to check my website, www.robflax.com.

Other News

Summer Camps/Festivals

This summer I'm delighted to be teaching and performing at a number of great festivals. Highlights include the Mark O'Connor/Berklee Summer Strings Program (June 23-27), and the Bates Dance Festival (July 20-August 10). Stay tuned for more!

In The Studio

One week ago, I went into Dimension Sound Studios with this capable rhythm section. From left to right: Ehud Ettun (bass), Jorge Perez-Albela (drums), Bert Seager (piano), me (violin).

We recorded three jazz standards as part of my audition materials for the first ever Zbigniew Seifert International Jazz Violin Competition! I'm entered now, and hopefully I'll hear back around mid-April about the semifinals, held this July in Krakow, Poland.

The session was so much fun, though, that we'll probably get back in the studio and record more tracks, to make a full album! Stay tuned for details.
