Summary of new features
. There are many significant benefits to this latest version including:
- Translate within Surveybe Designer and/or externally, via new ‘Language Sheets’ in .xml format, which can be easily imported to update the questionnaire.
- Design in one language and preview in another within the Designer interface
- Switch language(s) during the live interview from within the same questionnaire – separate language versions of the instrument are no longer required
- Optimise the questionnaire layout for different screen sizes with new, advanced design controls to user-define: column widths, answer field spacing and radio button wrapping points.
- Numerous other updates and improvements including: a reduction in the amount of ‘padding’ around questions to maximise screen space and enhanced design alerts and logging frameworks.

Translate your questionnaire into unlimited languages
We're excited to unveil the ability to translate questionnaires in multiple-languages with ease, either from within the Surveybe Designer or outside of the software via 'Language Sheets' (.xml format) which can then simply be imported into the Designer to update the questionnaire file.
Within the Surveybe Designer: additional languages are first defined at the Questionnaire level and the translations can be entered in the Languages tab for each component of the questionnaire. This can be done with multiple, additional languages within a questionnaire.
Not only is this a great feature but you can also select to preview the questionnaire within the Designer in a different language to the language that you are configuring in!
The following screenshots show an example of all of this via a questionnaire
being translated from English into French:
Translating externally from the Surveybe Designer is also possible via Languages Sheets and there are four easy steps to achieving this:
1. Design and build your questionnaire in the Designer in your preferred Designer Language.
2. Export the Languages Sheet.
3. Enter the translation for the required language for each questionnaire component - a
separate column should appear in the Languages Sheet for each language.
4. Import the updated Languages Sheet into the Designer.
An example of the sheet with a provision for entering the French translation is shown below:

Language Switching During Live Interviews
Once you have defined and included all the required translations into your questionnaire then, in the field, Enumerators have the ability to toggle between the languages that are part of the instrument at will. As shown below:

Layout control
Not only does Surveybe version 4.0 handle Multiple Languages with consummate ease but additional features also allow those users designing and configuring questionnaires to optimise the questionnaire layout on screen.
This is of benefit as different hardware units have different screen sizes plus questions displayed in different languages will require more space on screen. The same is true of the response field size. Therefore users can now define the width of such fields to accommodate such considerations as shown in its' simplest for with differing response field sizes below:
The same width control is also extended to column widths in Rosters.
Control of Radio Button alignment has also been improved so you can define how many buttons to have per line on the screen whilst configuring the questionnaire. This example shows the impact of such control with single display (Q1) and having five buttons per line (Q2):
