All AMICAL members are welcome, but AMICAL 2014 presenters in particular are strongly encouraged to attend this upcoming webinar with Library Journal "Mover & Shaker" John Watts:

Bring your A game:
10 tips for a great conference presentation

Let’s face it, public speaking is just plain hard. Preparing for, and delivering a presentation for a group of professional peers can cause even the most seasoned public speakers unending anxiety and grief. We often fall prey to the idea that there are natural public speakers with a talent for engaging an audience and those who just don’t have “it”. This sentiment couldn’t be farther from the truth. Good public speaking skills are developed through a little practice and an understanding of basic principles that yield good presentations. This webinar aims to provide ten tips that can turn a presentation from a nail-biting chore into an opportunity to share information with colleagues while having some fun!
In this webinar attendees will:

  1. Identify techniques used by actors, stand-up comedians, and professional speakers to curb   presentation jitters.
  2. Identify opportunities for engaging an audience through active participation and gamification.
  3. Discuss options for including visual aids that enhance a presentation and illustrate main ideas.
  4. Recognize the potential for humor, storytelling, and just plain fun in a professional presentation.

About the speaker:
John Watts holds a BFA in acting and a Master's in Library Science from Indiana University, Bloomington. Before he became a librarian, John was a professional actor. He uses his background in theatre to create engaging and memorable presentations. He was a 2011 Library Journal Mover and Shaker and a recipient of the 2012 ACRL Instruction Section Innovation award. He lives in Saint Louis, Missouri with his dog, Otis. He can't believe he just mentioned his dog in this professional bio. How embarrassing.
The webinar is open to anyone in the AMICAL community. Information about how to join the webinar will be sent to everyone on AMICALconnect, and any updates for the event will be posted to the event page there (AMICAL members not yet on AMICALconnect can create an account).
