Dear Readers,

As spring sweeps Berlin, there's a flurry of literary activity planned for April. This week alone has two major events: Jonathan Lethem will be a guest at the Literary Lounge series at Soho House on Wednesday, and on Thursday, Asymptote is celebrating its 3rd anniversary with festivities.

I'd also like to mention that I'll be making a small change to the Berlin Reads schedule. Rather than sending the newsletter weekly, I'm going to start sending a slightly longer version bi-weekly in order to provide more advanced notice about upcoming events. I hope this change is convenient for you in planning your literary calendar.

Enjoy the sun, and please keep referring friends to

Cheers & Prost,
Stephanie

Jonathan Lethem: Upcoming Events

Jonathan Lethem, author of nine novels and a current Berlin Fellow, will be reading and discussing his work at two upcoming events. On Wednesday, April 2, at 7pm, Jonathan will appear at Soho House for a discussion with Sharmaine Lovegrove as part of the Dialogue Books Literary Lounge series (RSVP required). On Sunday, April 13, at 8pm, English Theatre Berlin will host Jonathan as he reads from his latest novel, Dissident Gardens. More info here.

Celebrate Asymptote's 3rd Anniversary

Panels, Readings, and Discussions at Alte Kantine

As part of its worldwide anniversary celebration, Asymptote is hosting a bilingual evening of readings, discussions and old-school dirty soul at the Alte Kantine in Wedding. The event will take place on Thursday, April 3. Doors open at 7:30pm, and panels and readings in German and English start at 8:00pm. Featured panelists include Asymptote contributors Shane Anderson, Katy Derbyshire, Eugene Ostashevsky, Brittani Sonnenberg, and Thomas Pletzinger. More info here.

Bookstore Spotlight: Zabriskie
Culture & Nature Books in English & German

Despite the plethora of Berlin bookstore guides, from time to time I come across a bookstore I've neither seen before nor heard about. Last weekend I found Zabriskie tucked away on Manteuffelstraße 73. The culture and nature-themed shop's used books bin is a winner. Thoreau's Walden translated into German and Herman Hesse's Narsyß und Goldmund were both being sold for 0.50 cents. I recommend paying a visit!
