art piece gallery is proud to participate in the fifth annual Slow Art Day, an international event ironically hailing from MoMA in fast paced Manhattan. The aim
is to encourage the slow contemplation of art. It is said that even aficionados spend only 15 - 17 seconds looking at individual works, often missing out on much that the art has to offer. Indeed research shows that people who spend a longer time looking at art, experience a broader range of emotions.
The appropriately named artist, Tim Slowinsky's 1978 inscription
serves as inspiration for the global movement. "art is a way of life, a method of being, a way of perceiving the world."
Here's how it works: The gallery selects 5 works of art and participants examine each of them for 5 - 10 minutes. Staff will be on hand to suggest possible questions to consider.
To enhance the gallery experience, the group will sit down to lunch at local Japanese restaurant Izakaya Yu to chew over what they have just seen.
Slow art is a peace movement, in keeping with art piece gallery's approach to life and art and one which we are happy to support.
RSVP essential: Call or email nadine@artpiecegallery.com.au
NB. As the discussion over lunch is an integral part of this experience, those wishing to attend the gallery event are also required to meet the restaurant policy of $30 per head incl. meal and drink.
