CLUB PROJECTS

Asylum Speakers Awareness Program

The Asylum Speakers Program (ASAP) continues to cultivate human connections throughout its active involvement with Rotary Clubs and other community groups in Adelaide. The Rotary Club of Morialta welcomed Asylum Speakers Kaylene, Greg and Nelson on March 5. This provided an opportunity for fellow Rotarians to discuss the challenges that face people seeking asylum in Australia

As part of the "Harmony Day" celebrations, the ASAP team was invited to present at the Migration Museum. the fifty participants that took part in the ASAP workshop embarked in an imaginary journey that depicted the challenges that an Australian could potentially face, if their homeland was plagued with conflict and destruction. Through the use of story telling, Asylum Speakers Melissa and Nelson attempted to shed some light on some of the dire circumstances that could push people to flee their home countries to seek protection somewhere.

In an attempt to reach out to community groups and to build partnerships with like-minded networks, Asylum Speakers Melissa and Nelson also presented at Change The Conversation. This is a forum that brings together people in the humanitarian sector to explore practical ways to support asylum seekers living in the community.

If you would like to host an Asylum Speaker, please contact us via email (asap.rotary@gmail.com)
