A NIGHT OF SPOKEN WORD AND PRISON STORIES
Fri, April 4, 7pm – 9pm
Please join us and invite folks for an evening of poetry and story telling, to share different people's experiences and/or thoughts in relation to the Prison Industrial Complex that has plagued our society.

If you or someone you know would like to perform or share their story, please feel free to send us a message as soon as possible. We might not have enough time to have everyone perform or share their stories, therefore priority will be given to those who sign up first.

We hope this will be the beginning of a larger movement to continue discussing issues pertaining to this era of mass incarceration.

** Semana de la Dignidad y Rebeldia **

Semana de la Dignidad Rebelde (April 8-12, 2014) is a week long of events that bring visibility to various struggles that are often marginalized and current movements taking place in the Bay area and internationally. We plan to have each day designated to a theme, art for liberation, talking circle, Peace & Dignity Journeys Teach-In, plantita workshop, escuelita zapatista report back leading up to our annual Indingenous People's Night of Resistance. Through this week of 'dignidad rebelde' we honor our ancestors who continue to guide us, mother earth for her sacrifices and love and to each other as indigenous/people of color who continue to thrive and survive.
Xinaxtli, a Xicanx/Indigenous organization at UC Berkeley, would like to invite you to our 7th annual Indigenous Peoples Night of Resistance! Saturday April 12th 2-9 PM

IPNOR, is a night to honor all people who walk with the earth to protect and defend it. Indigenous peoples from Africa, Asia, Native America, and the Pacific Islands are not of the past but continue to live with dignity. We continue to hold a great responsibility in sharing the knowledge of our ancestors who resisted colonialism in order for us to be here today. - Xinaxtli
The symposium is scheduled for Wednesday April 30th 2014 at UC Berkeley’s Multicultural Community Center from 9-5pm.  In the past two years, we have encouraged presentations that engage with the values and principles of the MCC such as— anti-oppression, cross-cultural understanding/solidarity, popular education, sustainability and wellness (http://mcc.berkeley.edu/about).  This year in the spirit of the 45th anniversary of the Third World Liberation Front, we encourage presentations to engage with the following themes: Reconceptualizing Research, Resistance, Community and Practice.  This year’s theme draws from the multiple timelines of women of color feminism, critical race and gender studies, and queer studies that strive to redefine power and patterns of relating.  This theme touches upon the ways scholarship can negotiate intellectual boundaries as well as transgress the limits of the academy, art and activism.
We invite submissions from undergraduates/graduate students, activists, organizers and community members.
There are no restrictions as to the field or topic of study.  We encourage you all to engage with the values and principles of the MCC as well and/or this year’s theme.

Deadline for abstract submission is April 15th! Paper and poster submissions can be submitted online and should include a 250 word research abstract.
