Suya Spot Update

(1319 Shillington)

The CCA along with several members of the community attended a pre-hearing regarding the liquor license application for 1319 Shillington (aka. The Suya Spot). At this pre-hearing we learned that the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) has also objected to the application and the matter will go before the Licensing Appeal Tribunal at a full hearing scheduled for May 13 and 14th. Currently no location has been determined. A notice will be sent out as soon as we are notified.
The pre-hearing also established that two members of the community will represent the neighbourhood alongside Counsel from the AGCO. Carlington will be represented by Kevin Waghorn (Acting President of the CCA) and Grace McClelland-Crout, Coordinator, Viscount Eyes Neighbourhood Watch. They will be coordinating the strategy for the hearing. For more information please feel free to contact us or attend our next General Meeting which is to be held Wednesday April 2 7:30pm at the Alexander Community Centre (960 Silver Street).

Monthly Community
Pub Night

The Carlington Community Association’s monthly Pub Night is a new event launched in 2014.  The Pub Night is an idea brought forward by a number of CCA members who were seeking a more informal setting to meet and talk with their neighbors.  Occurring on the third Wednesday of the month, the next Pub Night is Wednesday April 16th at Bowman’s Bar and Grill, 1170 Carling Ave.  Carlington resident Peter West is the owner of Bowman’s, the neighborhood’s newest establishment.  Bowman’s has been getting rave reviews for it’s menu, local draught brews and wines.  Come meet your neighbours this Wednesday night and enjoy a pint.

Success for Early French Immersion

On March 25th the OCDSB Trustees unanimously approved the adoption of a motion that WE Gowling will offer Early French Immersion programming for children entering senior kindergarten in the fall of 2014.  Thanks to the ongoing efforts of numerous members of the WE Gowling community, we are extremely happy to see that they have achieved an ambitious goal and together made a substantive contribution to our community.  Congratulations everyone! They will post further details as they are made available.  You can contact them at gowling.efi@gmail.com.
