Lesson 209: Faith When Life Hurts Pt. 3
God commanded Israel not to plant crops in their land every 7th year. God promised to provide.
Israel responded by ignoring His command for 490 years. They did not trust God’s promise.
They seemed to lack conviction that God’s will even mattered. They owed the land 70 years of rest. That’s why God sent them into captivity in Babylon for 70 years, to claim the land’s rest.
Each of us has faced hard challenges: job loss, death of a loved one, illness. The question: will we keep Trusting God: Even When Life Hurts (Jerry Bridges' book).
We must have conviction that it is important to obey God. We must have confidence in His promises.
Otherwise we will never persevere through suffering. Weight-lifters say: no pain, no gain.
When we seek to be holy, despite the pain, we must realize that the pain is no reason to stop.
About This Series
The goal of this series is to become more useful in serving the Lord Jesus Christ, as an instrument in the Redeemer's hand. The theme verses for the series are Ephesians 4:22-24, Philemon 11, 2 Timothy 2:21
- to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds,
- and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
- Formerly he was useless to you, but now he is indeed useful to you and to me.
- Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.
