Keeping Kentville Connected
In 1766, the town was starting to build up around the river. By 1800 there were already 14 houses here! By this time, the town was called Horton Corner, as it was located at the Northwest corner of the Horton Township.

It is reported that in 1794, his Royal Highness Prince Edward Duke of Kent, father of Queen Victoria, stopped in Horton Corner while horseback riding from Halifax to Annapolis. This obviously made quite the impression on the townspeople for in 1826 they decided to rename the town Kentville in honour of that visit.

The chimney at the old KCA was a known roost site and possible nesting site for chimney swifts that are a federally-threatened and provincially-endangered bird. This was brought to the attention of the Town by a concerned citizen. Since then, the site has been inspected and no birds have been spotted yet this year. A cap was placed over the chimney to prevent roosting this year.

Construction at the Cornwallis Inn is under way again with a target date of July 31 for completion. “Our vision is for the Cornwallis Inn to be a vibrant, mixed-use community hub, while retaining most of the structural dignity of when this landmark building was first built,” says Alex Filimon, president of Cornwallis Developments Limited. Your Town Council
The Council Advisory Committee will be meeting on Monday, May 12 at 1:30 in the Council Chambers.  This meeting is open to the public.
Presentations from:
Valley Wild Atom AA – Provincial and SCFHF Champs; Habitat for Humanity (Lynn Spencer); and the Kinsmen Club.

Citizen Question:  I see dog tags are due. Is there a cat bylaw in the town? The town bylaw says:
Every owner of a cat, snake, lizard, or other reptile, horse, colt, ass, mule, ox, cow,
or other cattle, pig, skunk, ferret, monkey, rabbit, rodent, sheep, goat, goose,
turkey, or other fowl who allows such an animal to run at large in the Town is guilty
of an offence.
What is the offence ... a fine?

RESPONSE: “This issue relates to our Animal Control Bylaw .  True, there is more emphasis on issues relating to dogs than any other animal. However, most complaints within a community that relate to cats are that they are running at large (killing birds and messing in garden beds.)  As for the penalty, this bylaw is subject to Summary Offence Tickets, which would be issued in accordance with a schedule, and issued by the Animal Control Office”
