FIRST WORD from PASTOR CHIP STEVENS

"Best ever!" That statement is way overused. However, it's the statement that comes to my mind regarding this past Sunday's Easter musical. Thank you, Tom Jenkins, celebration choir and orchestra, audio-visual guys, and everybody else who had a part to play. The quality of the presentation showed true professionalism, but the clarity of the gospel was absolutely amazing! What a great way to start off Easter Week!

As this Sunday is Easter Sunday, we hope that you and your family are making plans to celebrate with us. Also, we expect many guests in worship so we ask you to make sure to speak to those around you and make them feel welcome. Hope to see you Sunday!

This past Sunday night, the Youth Minister Search Committee was approved. They are:

Brad Smith--CH          Jay Reed

Michael Robinson      Becky Armstrong

Catherine Ray             Amy White

Cameron Johnston    Anna McKell

Please be in prayer for this committee as we seek God's direction through this process.

Thank you for allowing us to stand among you in the forest of trees that makes up FBC Starkville.

TOTAL CHILDREN’S BUILDING PROJECT

Design Phase (paid in full)                                     $  639,624

Construction phase (contract + soft costs)            $7,523,262

TOTAL COST                                                        $8,162,886

Received TO DATE (as of 4/15/14)                      $1,474,463

ADDITIONAL GIVING NEEDED                            $6,688,423

NOTES:
- Design Phase:
Architect fees, feasibility and environmental costs, parking expenses thus far on Lafayette and Washington Streets.

- Construction Phase: West Brothers contract of $6,839,329 + up to 10% for soft costs - $683,933

- Soft Costs: Includes the completion of parking lots, architect fees in the construction phase, loan closing and incidentals, audio visual and technology costs, playground, all furnishings (offices, classrooms, assembly areas, nursery, welcome center, etc.).

- Debt: We have secured a loan to finance the construction of the building for up to $7,200,000. Because the accepted bid was lower and we paid more than $500,000 to the contractor before the loan was complete, if finished today, we would only need $6,274,891 of the approved loan. We do not plan to borrow for soft costs. As of today, we have $249,270 on hand for soft costs.  We’ve spent $27,118 thus far. Therefore, we must receive $407,545 by December in order to meet our soft cost needs.

On Thursday night, April 24th, eight ladies will graduate from the spring session of Christian Women's Job Corps. As always, each lady is given a gift bag upon graduation as well as a certificate.  If any Sunday School classes, groups, or individuals in the church would like to contribute cash or gift items for their bags, they would be greatly appreciated. Whatever you can do to make this night special for the ladies we want you to do it. Thank you, First Baptist family, in advance, for making these ladies feel special.  Any contributions can be left in the church office and marked "CWJC." Thank you.

Tom Jenkins
Minister of Music

To God be the Glory!

Thank you to our Church Family for the great reception of our Celebration Music Ministry program "The Greatest Love"!! I'm a bit overwhelmed at your enthusiasm, but Glory to God for all the wonderful ways He has drawn us to Him through this journey and wonderful worship experience.

I sent this note out to the music people, but I wanted to share it with all. Romans 12:4-5 has kept coming back to me since our Sunday morning program: "For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others." Truly, our journey together has been one of humble service and sharing of gifts to each other, to our church and community.

Thank you to all who contributed including our orchestra and director, Duane Warfield, our costuming team led by Nan Donohoe, our tech team of Andy Smith, Steve Gwaltney, and RC Fron, our office staff of Nora Sills and Lana Hamby and to our Director of Media, Bobby D'Alessandro. A heartfelt thank you to the entire music ministry team for the excellent program and worship experience!

Fresh Start

As the choir leads in worship both Wednesday for the celebration of the Lord's Supper and for Easter, we get a FRESH START! Everyone is invited to come join us as we sing "In Remembrance of Me" and continue to lead worship for our church. Email Tom with questions at tjenkins@fbcstarkville.com

Nathan Taylor
Minister of University & Missions

Days like Sunday are so much fun for me! I want to share it with you. With Jim's absence I have the opportunity to teach the high school seniors Sunday School class. I have been enjoying getting to know this group. We are going through a study focused on the transition into college. We discussed one of the most important aspects of the college life: having empowering friendships. Following Sunday School, I thoroughly enjoyed the Easter drama and music as many of you did. It was a fantastic time of corporate worship with our church family. After worship, I had the privilege of having lunch with one of our University student's family. Getting to know our students' parents is always fun for me! Rounding out the day was University Bible Study which is always my favorite two hours of the week. Sunday night was the final University Bible Study of the school year. Brittany Farley, Grace Gatlin, and Russell Roberts are three of our graduating seniors, and each of them shared about how the Lord has worked in their lives during their college years. Having known each of them for the past 4-5 years, it was a blessing to hear them point to Christ as the source of their strength and share about their growing dependence on Him. We will miss our seniors, but I am excited to see how the Lord uses them where they land. This is always a bittersweet time of year. Finally, hanging out in the OC with some of our students until almost 10:00 was the icing on the cake. Good community! I love those times.

Thank you, FBC Starkville, for allowing me to be a part of the ministry to our university students.
