Celebrating the Life And Legacy Of Marian Anderson

Presented by The Palace Danbury Theatre and Danbury Museum and Historical Society

Marian Anderson was a world-renowned opera singer and the first African American to perform at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City. Perhaps her most famous concert took place on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in 1939, with 75,000 people in attendance, after having been denied permission to sing at Constitution Hall. In 1940, Anderson and her husband purchased their property in Danbury, which became known as Marianna Farm.  The multi-talented Wanda L. Houston will present a vocal and narrative history of Marian Anderson’s vibrant life, performing the signature opera arias and favorite Negro spirituals of Ms. Anderson.
