Part Two of Downtown Albany Market Series

Capitalize Albany Corporation will host the second State of Downtown Albany Market Series on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at 20 Park Street from 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM. The event will focus on the current state of the office market in downtown Albany and how it can be leveraged to accommodate the area's growing technology sector. Learn more.
 

Sculpture in the Streets Call for Artists

The Downtown Albany Business Improvement District has announced that the 2014 Sculpture in the Streets program will host internationally touring artwork, "Play Me, I'm Yours" in downtown Albany this summer. An estimated 10 pianos will be displayed throughout the corridors and streets of Downtown. The BID is accepting applications through Friday, April 25, 2014 from artists interested in creating original artwork on piano exteriors. Learn more.
 

SCCC Albany Instant Admit Days

The Schenectady County Community College (SCCC) downtown Albany campus will be hosting a series of instant admit days, with no application fee, now through July 1, 2014. Summer classes begin Monday, June 2, 2014 - only $141 per credit. Learn more.
 

Calder Cup Starts Friday

The Albany Devils have made it to the Calder Cup with the first round of games this Friday and Saturday at 7:00 PM at the Times Union Center. End Zone and Corner tickets are available now - but hurry! Learn more. 
 

Mayor Sheehan Declares 'Earth Week'

On Monday, April 21, 2014 Albany Mayor Kathy M. Sheehan proclaimed the beginning of 'Earth Week' in Albany. Earth Day will be celebrated April 22, 2014 and Arbor Day will be on April 25, 2014. Mayor Sheehan discussed ongoing City environmental and sustainability projects as well as county-wide events. Learn more.  
 

CDTA Ongoing "Green" Efforts

The Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) is in high gear when it comes to going green. CDTA has several ongoing sustainable initiatives. Recently CDTA installed fully-automatic high-speed garage doors in the Albany garage, which conserves energy, and has acquired four new hybrid buses which help to save on fuel cost. Read more.
 

Green Your Commute Day 2014

Green Your Commute Day (GYCD) celebrates and educates about greener alternatives to the standard commute. Visit Tricentennial Park on Friday, May 16, 2014 from 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM for bike clinics, an opportunity to learn about green cars, vanpool displays, raffles and more. Bike to Work

The Capital District Transportation Committee (CDTC) is sponsoring the Capital Region Bike to Work Challenge. Organizations can register online and compete for trophies in four categories against other Albany County workplaces. Bike to Work Day is Friday, May 16, 2014. Learn more.
 

Serve Albany Week

The second Serve Albany event is happening now through April 27, 2014. The city-wide service event includes 28 opportunities to volunteer at Albany non-profit organizations. Learn more. 
 

Fourth Annual GOBY Awards

The Stakeholders Inc. have announced the 2014 GOBY Awards (Get on Board Volunteer Awards) designed to recognize companies, organizations and individuals who have provided exemplary volunteer service in New York's Capital Region. Downtown winners include:

Nature Based Artwork from Around the World

An exhibition featuring nature-based artwork created by artists from around the world opened at the New York State Museum on Saturday, April 19, 2014. Focus on Nature XIII: Natural and Cultural History Illustration showcases 91 illustrations from 71 artists. The exhibit will be open through January 4, 2015. Learn more.
