Marty's Message

It is scholarship and award season–a time at the end of the academic year when we pause to recognize and honor the accomplishments of our students. It is our chance to recognize colleagues and friends and honor distinguished alumni. You can read about some of those recognitions in this week’s Monday Message.

To kick things off, the School of Education held its annual Oscar W. Neale Celebration of Teaching and Learning Reception last week, awarding 49 scholarships to deserving students. This year alone, the College of Professional Studies will award 170 scholarships totaling $145,000!

I've had the opportunity to witness many dedicated students receive scholarships over the years. To me, there is no better way to validate their efforts and encourage them to keep up the great work. My hope is to award many more students in the years to come.

It is especially rewarding to watch as our scholarship recipients meet and talk with donors who made their awards possible. These meetings are filled with gratitude and include hugs and sometimes tears. For donors, creating a scholarship is often a way of “paying it forward” – a tradition we all hope will continue.
Marty Loy,
CPS Dean
