Awaiting Spring...
As the snow finally recedes and lovely spring pokes through the cold, white maze, we breathe in the warm air and feel the rejuvenation. Then, we turn around, and it's gone again. Spring, even if a tease, is always a time to renew and refresh one's plans and purpose. Dream Write Publishing is looking forward to another busy year as we work toward our 4th anniversary on July 31st. Events are stacking up with opportunity to promote authors and their books. Whenever we get the chance, your work is out there. Reporting summaries for the first quarter of 2014 have been mailed (or emailed) with a memo regarding future reporting and royalty payments. There has been sporadic activity but, in general, it has been a slow start to the year for sales.
Reviews and other News:
Still looking for interested writers >> Spring Writer's Retreat @ Strawberry Creek > this event is being booked through Linda Pedley, owner of DWP and member of the WFSC. The Retreat is booked for the long weekend in May from the 16th to the 19th, inclusive. This is an amazing venue to get away and write! Private rooms allow solitude; a huge inspiring lodge with fireplace, wrap around deck, and lots of nature trails will get your muse going. Meals are planned and served so you don't have to do anything but write! If you are interested - book now! We have only 2 spots to fill >>> email Linda at wildhorse33@hotmail.com
Workshops for Authors by Dream Write? If we were to host workshops related to writing, editing, and publishing - would you be interested? What topic would be of interest? What burning question do you want to discuss and explore answers to...? This type of session would be a chance for DWP authors to share stories and experiences about their book and publishing journey. It would be a chance to have an open discussion on topics of your choice. It would give you opportunity to ask questions of your colleagues and of DWP. In the very least, it would be a time to touch base with others who share your passion. Ideas? Suggestions? Email DWP at dreamwrite10@hotmail.com
POD & EBook Options > Print on Demand is an alternative for DWP authors through CreateSpace - an Amazon affiliate, and through the UK based Print-on-Demand Worldwide. Although print runs can be limited, and ordered as needed, there are always pros and cons to consider. EBook platforms include primarily, Smashwords, but also direct through Amazon and Kobo. Smashwords' Premium Catalog distribution includes Apple, Barnes & Noble, and the aforementioned, Amazon. For more information on this program, please contact us through email if you are interested in applying one or both of these services to your existing book - a new publishing agreement and fees apply. Update: Sony has closed its EBook platform and sold to Kobo. Update: Good Night Old Man by George Campbell will soon be available on POD. A lunch meeting with the author confirmed "we don't want the book going out of print." There are so many more people who could learn from George's story!
Strathcona Connect
On April 1st, Dream Write Publishing took over management and editorial responsibilities for the online ezine, Strathcona Connect. The sites' founder Carla Howatt, of Tricomm Strategies and now councilor for Ward 4 in Strathcona County, stepped down from the community news media after discussions with DWP about options to keep the paper live. A rigorous political and public schedule prevented her from continuing. Strathcona Connect is a community focused publication and DWP is a good fit. We endeavor to continue with the same quality presented by Carla and continue to expand the edition to include more human interest stories and cultural awareness articles. If you would like to write an article for the online publication, take a look at the content - we are open to suggestions and submissions if you are from Strathcona County or writing about the County. Visit Strathcona Connect and email us at dreamwrite10@hotmail.com for more information.
