IC-IMPACTS Hosts AGM

On March 12, 2014, IC-IMPACTS hosted its 1st Annual General Meeting at the University of British Columbia.  Students, professors, and key members across Canada flew in to attend the event.  Highlights of the AGM include open networking sessions, a keynote address from CEO Dr. Nemy Banthia, and research presentations from students working on IC-IMPACTS funded projects.
 
 
IC-IMPACTS Funds New Project

IC-IMPACTS has awarded Dr. Mina Hoorfar funding for her investigation in the detection of Cryptosporidum.  Dr. Mina Hoorfar is working on developing technologies that will detect the water pathogen and prevent millions of water-related diseases and outbreaks in both Canada and India.
 
Ganga River Collaboration Moves Forward

With the full support of the Ministry of Environment and Forests in India,
IC-IMPACTS and the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) have moved forward by creating a collaborative Action Plan in addressing the pollution and contamination of the Ganga River in India.
 
Dr. Nemy Banthia Invited to Join the Forum for Global Leadership of India

Dr. Nemy Banthia has been invited to join the Forum for Global Leadership of India, a group of international experts that will serve as advisory to the Indian government and leadership.  The invitation to join this group of extraordinary people is a great honour and will support, empower, and impact India and its future development across multiple industries.
 
New Strategic Plan for Health Theme

The Public Health theme of IC-IMPACTS has been re-designed to work in greater synergy with the Water and Infrastructure themes, delivering more holistic solutions and substantial community-oriented impacts.

Graduate Fellowships Selected

Applications to the Community Engagement Fellowship Program, jointly created by
IC-IMPACTS and Engage North were received during the month of March.  Applicants have since been reviewed and selected.


 
Dr. Sushanta Mitra Receives Grant for Water Quality Research

Dr. Sushanta Mitra has received a $1 million ISTP Canada/NSERC grant for his project titled "Remote Sensing Network for Water  Quality Management." This project is a great model for international collaboration, involving Canadian researchers, Canadian and Indian industry, and Indian academic collaborators. The Department of BioTechnology, Government of India, has also approximately granted an additional $500,000.

 
Dr. Nemy Banthia Delivers Seminar discussing IC-IMPACTS and the Future

On March 21, 2014, Dr. Nemy Banthia delivered a seminar for the Faculty of Civil Engineering at UBC, detailing the history of IC-IMPACTS, highlighting on-going projects, and sharing future direction of the organization.  The seminar was very well received by faculty, staff, students, and other guests.
