SANFORD, MAINE – An exciting new collaborative effort is underway to host a Film Festival in Sanford on the weekend of May 31–June 1.  The City of Sanford and the Sanford Regional Economic Growth Council are working with partners in the community to generate a remarkable opportunity for members of the public to view a number of extraordinary films.  Offerings come from overseas and within the United States, including several movies created in Maine, and even some local films - all shown in unique venues across the City of Sanford.

"We continue to explore ways to host unique events that draw people to Maine's Newest City," Growth Council Executive Director Jim Nimon said.  "In speaking with colleagues and experts around the state we are encouraged by the positive response communities get when they offer a film festival.  This has made us confident that the Sanford International Film Festival will permit us to showcase the City of Sanford, local filmmakers and a number of great movies."

Moviegoers will have a chance to meet the filmmakers at a special reception on the evening of May 31st.  More information on this gathering will be available closer to the date.

“We are truly excited about hosting this event and confident the community will help make it a success by showing their support," said Mayor Tom Cote.  "It has been heartening to watch various City and Community groups working together to provide this opportunity for artistic expression in Sanford.  I couldn’t be more excited about this event and its positive impact on our city.”
