Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month
April is the ASPCA’s Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month. In 2013, Denver Animal Control Officers responded to over 2,400 calls relating to animal cruelty, abuse, and neglect. Cases like Moses and Tucker, who were abandoned, severely matted and just battling alone to survive. Both Moses and Tucker were immediately groomed, and DAS found them both amazing new homes!
To support DAS & help us save more of these sweet animals,
please consider donating. Cruelty investigations are part of our everyday mission, but your gift will help us fund lifesaving programs at our shelter such as emergency veterinary care and efforts to find homes for these special pets.
In addition, DAS is offering presentations on humane education, responsible pet ownership, and animal cruelty prevention to school, youth, community, and neighborhood groups. Do you have a group that would be interested? Contact our Outreach Coordinator, Andy, at
andy.rees@denvergov.org.
DAS will also have an educational display in the Wellington Webb Municipal Building (201 W Colfax) from April 18–28, as well as an adoption event at the Webb Building on April 18 from 11AM – 1PM.
Adoptables Spotlight
Baby (A215615) is a 3-year-old domestic shorthair & is available at Chuck and Don's (201 University Ave.) through our cat foster partnership. She's very sweet, litter box trained and good with other cats. Baby even comes with a BIG basket of goodies courtesy of Chuck & Don's! Stop by their Cherry Creek location to meet her today.
DAS has
several Chihuahuas available for adoption right now so we are running
reduced adoption fees of just $25 on Chihuahuas through Saturday, April 12.
A BIG Thanks to DAS Volunteers!
It's National
Volunteer Appreciation Week! Thanks to our wonderful team of 200+ volunteers who put in countless hours to socialize, market & love all the animals at DAS. We truly couldn't do this without you!

Celebrating National Animal Control Appreciation Week
April 13–19 is National Animal Control Appreciation Week and a great opportunity for us to celebrate our hard working Animal Control Officers (ACOs)! Our ACOs are compassionate experts & work tirelessly to keep animals safe throughout Denver and to educate the public. They are passionate, professional and often have a tough job to do. A big thank you to this dedicated group who truly protect our community's pets! (Also, this cute pup being held is
Tiny Tim, he is available for adoption at DAS.)
