The Amherst Project is a ministry of Chi Alpha and serves to connect students to Christ and the Church.

Modeling Christ to students through acts of kindness, social justice, and proclamation.

Mandays, CHI Alpha Males
There aren't enough godly role models for men on our campus and this has been on my heart for a while. When we started CHI Alpha males this semester, I began meeting with men on Mondays, thus was born MANDAYS. We meet to laugh, encourage, support, and cultivate healthy masculinity looking to Jesus as our ultimate role model.
According to dictionary.com an alpha male is: "the most dominant, powerful, or assertive man in a particular group: the alpha male of investment bankers."
In Chi Alpha, the Chi refers to Christ and Alpha refers to ambassadors. Unlike Alpha males known for dominance, A CHI Alpha male exists to reflect Jesus Christ.
Luke 2:52 (ESV) 52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man. This is growth intellectually, physically, spiritually, and socially. We must grow in these arenas to follow His model.
Leadership is a big part of Mandays as we learn one principle a week from Tim Elmore's "Habitudes". It is a four part series that builds upon itself: leading self, connecting with others, influencing others, and shaping culture.
One student said that because of this group, his attitude and energy level has improved.
I'm excited about where this is leading and pray that God would use me as a catalyst for change. Would you pray that with me?

Stir-Fridays

What started out as a few guys cooking stir-fry has become something more meaningful. Where the Freedom Cafe has allowed us to establish more natural relationships with non-christians, Stir fryday has become a natural place to share a meal and serve them. The last few weeks, J and B prepared the meal with me and G has done the dishes. M brings sweet potatoe fries to share. More and more are becoming comfortable with us and finding out that we are not exceptionally weird. Living in Barna's epicenter of the U.S.'s least Bible oriented cities, I consider this a win.
Pray that Jesus is seen in our love shown to our new friends.

so we can connect?

We'd love to help your students connect, serve, grow, and influence during their time at UMass.
There's a place for them in Chi Alpha.
