“True peace can rarely be imposed from the outside; it must be born within and between communities through meetings and dialogue and then carried outward.”

On April 7-8, 2014, "Detroit Bankruptcy & Beyond" took off at the Damon J. Keith Center at Wayne State University. The conference began on Monday evening, with 200+ people in attendance. Throughout the evening and the following day, policymakers, scholars, advocates, and community members participated and engaged in various keynote addresses, panels, and discussions on topics including the historical roots and effects of Detroit's bankruptcy, a national perspective on distressed cities, and working within and through municipal distress.

Wayne State University provided a livestream of the event, and the Haas Institute for a Fair and Inclusive Society launched a live Twitter feed that generated a lot of buzz using the trending topic, #beyondbankruptcy. Proceedings and video recordings have been archived here.  Stay tuned for more detailed coverage of this event and the larger Detroit project!
