Watch over your children, O Lord, as their days increase. Bless them and guide them wherever they may be. Strengthen them where they stand. Comfort them when discouraged or lonely. Raise them up when they fall, and in their hearts, may your peace that passes all understanding, abide with them for ever.  In the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Where do you get all that
Equipment for your Emergency Kit?

Safety Joan’s philosophy: there are very few things that are absolutely necessary for your kit that everyone agrees on.  One of these is a flashlight.  Previously I had differing sizes of Maglights in all my kits – they are sturdy, and difficult to break.  Recently, however, a new flashlight manufacturer has captured my attention: NEBO Tools.  They have an amazing assortment of LED flashlights, which are all 10 times brighter than a regular Maglight.  And the one that has really stood out for me is the “Larry”.  I played with it at Cole Hardware, and now have 3 of them.

Today’s choice : The LARRY 8 LED Work Light
  • 8 LEDs output 60 Lumens of light (bulbs rated for 110,000 hours of life)
  • Rotating magnetic clip
  • Recessed LED housing
  • Water-resistant reinforced plastic body design
The Larry is inexpensive, and gives more light than any 3 other flashlights.  It has a clip that is magnetic and rotates – so it can be aimed in an arc of 180 degrees handsfree.  It’s also pretty much indestructible (one of my favorite virtues in any item I have in my kit)

Online retailers and pricing:

Amazon.com: $8.99  (don’t forget to go through the HI “portal” on the website)

NEBO Tools (manufacturer): $9.99

And offline: Cole Hardware (where I have bought mine)

Holy Week is such an extraordinary time: such a wild invitation to step out of our usual routines and into a two thousand year old drama.  As Sara Miles writes in her latest book, City of God: faith in the streets,

“It felt like the moment at the beginning of the Palm Sunday service each year when I remove my wristwatch, put it away until after Easter, and plunge untethered into God’s time. Singing, praying, eating, weeping, I enter the current of Holy Week with my whole Church to swim in kairos time, out of control.”

Let us walk together through this Holy Week, allowing  the developing drama of each day embrace and transform us.    Together we will walk into the darkness of that tomb, and together we will walk out into the bright, resurrection sunlight.  We will hold hands, and we will sing! Join us!
