Brett Mitchell steps in at The Cleveland Orchestra,
receives glowing reviews

Brett Mitchell's recent last-minute subscription debuts with The Cleveland Orchestra--comprising two different programs on back-to-back evenings--garnered rave reviews by the Cleveland press, as did his final performance of the weekend with his own ensemble:
  • Cultured Cleveland's review of Friday, March 7: "The star of the show was the Cleveland Orchestra’s assistant conductor, Brett Mitchell. When Franz Welser-Möst phoned in sick on Friday afternoon, it was Mitchell’s time to shine."
  • Cultured Cleveland's review of Sunday, March 9: "An all-Brett Mitchell weekend at Severance Hall came to a roaring close on Sunday night with fireworks from the Cleveland Orchestra’s junior ensembles, the Youth Orchestra and Youth Chorus."
  • The Plain Dealer's review, "Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra and Chorus shine in challenging program under Brett Mitchell," called Sunday's performance "compelling."
UPCOMING DEBUTS & OTHER PROJECTS

Brett Mitchell has been engaged to make his debut with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra in a series of three concerts on June 20, 21, and 22, leading two performances at Orchestra Hall and a third at Stony Creek Metropark.

Brett Mitchell has been selected as the 2014 Young Alumnus of the Year by his under-graduate alma mater, Western Washington University. Mitchell will accept this award at a special event on Monday, June 2, during which he will lead the university's orchestra in a performance of Tchaikovsky's Fifth Symphony.
Mitchell will also make his Blossom Music Festival debut with the Kent/Blossom Chamber Orchestra on Saturday, July 26, leading a program of Wagner and Ravel at The Cleveland Orchestra's summer home.

Brett Mitchell recently returned to the Houston Symphony to lead a video and audio recording project, "A Soundtrack for the City," an original short film dedicated to the promotion of Houston and its creative community. Mitchell and the orchestra's performance of the original score appears throughout the film.
