Apr 2014 Newsletter
It is with a heavy heart that I must start this month's A&NW Branch Newsletter with sobering news of yet another fatality in the river Avon in Bath. This is the fifth person to drown in the city in the last four-and-a-half years. Clearly the work of The Royal Life Saving Society - YOUR society - is as important today as it ever was. If you have any ideas for ways to spread our water-safety message and save lives, please get in touch. Grants and expertise are available to help you turn YOUR ideas into reality. Together we can prevent another unnecessary tragedy!
The A&NW branch committee have commissioned research into drownings in the area, and intend to publish a water safety action plan for Bath by the end of the year. If you would like to help with this lifesaving work, please get in touch.

Camp Survive & Save - 3-9 Aug 2014
This summer, 80 young lifesavers from the UK and Europe will be taking part in the Survive & Save open-water summer camp in Wales.
The week-long programme of activities will include: open-water lifesaving, first-aid training, team-building challenges, leadership tasks, sightseeing and cultural activities.
The camp is open to lifesavers aged 14-18. To take part you must be able to swim 200m confidently, but no previous open water experience is necessary. The total cost of the exchange is just £220 per person which includes food, accommodation, all activities and a souvenir t-shirt.
The entry deadline has been extended, so click here for full details and to secure your place!
RLSS UK National Championships
Since RLSS Avon & North Wiltshire does not currently have a competition secretary, we won't be holding a branch heat this year. Instead, up to four A&NW competitors in each category will progress straight through to the regional heats, which will take place on the 20th Sept in Bridgwater.
The deadline for entries is 2 May 2014. Please see www.rlsswest.org.uk for more details and to enter.
