Indonesian Ayam

This Indonesian Ayam is the latest addition to the World Spice blend collection. Inspired by the island country's traditional dish, Ayam Goreng or "chicken fried", this delightful mix boasts a perfectly balanced blend of savory, sweet and peppery flavors that dance like tropical trade winds on the palate. This blend is traditionally used on fried chicken but we've also tried it on cripsy baked chicken, in coconut milk based curries and to accent peanut sauce for grilling - all were delicious. No matter how you chose to use it, the subtly sweet earthiness of this exotic blend will have you saying, “Selamat Makan!” Happy eating!

Okay, I’ve “tested” this recipe many more times than was truly necessary because it is so easy and delicious. Our new Indonesian Ayam is the star, gracing the chicken and the peanut sauce with a notable but not overpowering melange of exotic Indonesian spicing.

We'd like to give a big shout out to the creative talents of Charity Burgraaf. We first worked with Charity on our soon to be released book, World Spice at Home, and quickly decided it was a match made in heaven. She shares our deep love of food, flavor and texture along with an intuitive feel for spices, and what makes them special. At last months cookbook club meeting, the table was graced with over a dozen dishes from Lisa Dupar's award winning book Fried Chicken & Champagne, ranging from Shrimp & Grits to Pecan and Sour Cream Coffee Cake to Celeraic Lasagna. The author joined us and shared tales from the kitchen and an inside look at the making of her book. Next up is Smitten Kitchen by Deb Perelman and if you haven't checked out her blog or book- do so now! Everybody Loves a Cowboy Cookout!
