Spence Mountain Trail Project
We are gearing up to start Phase One of our new trail system. The project is divided in two parts, construction of the trailhead and building the first 2-3 miles of trail.
The trailhead will be located off Hwy. 140 near Howard Bay. Our partners at Oregon Department of Forestry and Rhine-Cross Engineering are helping with site prep and engineering prior to construction of the trailhead.
Trail building has started as of April and are looking for folks interested in helping on a dedicated trail building crew. If you would like to help please contact Drew Honzel at dhonzel@mac.com
Trail Maintenance
We will be holding our first trail maintenance day in Moore Park this coming Saturday, May 10th at 7:45 am. We meet at the Gingerbread House in Moore Park and plan to head for the work site around 8:00 am and work until 11:30 am. For those interested we head to Abbey's for lunch afterwards. Be sure to dress for trail work: good hiking boots (no running shoes), long pants, work gloves, hat, water and mid-morning snack. We provide the tools. Please let Dennis Taugher know if you will join us at dennistaugher@me.com.
Maintenance days are planned for the second Saturday of each month but we also plan to experiment with other maintenance days during the month, possibly on evenings and other weekends.
We will be holding crew leader training in the next 2-3 weeks and if you are interested in participating please let us know.
Other News
A group led by Stephanie and Katherine from the Sky Lakes Wellness Center is spearheading a new short walking trail above OIT. The trail will be one mile in length and consist of roller compacted gravel. Sitting benches, signs and kiosks are planned.
