Celebrating your success

Congratulations to Plymouth Music Zone (PMZ) who picked up the ‘best overall impact’ award at the inaugural South West Impact awards, organised to recognise the work of ‘social purpose’ organisations.  PMZ’s executive director, Debbie Geraghty, said: “It’s so flattering and hugely humbling to be recognised with such a prestigious award and to be seen as such a shining flagship example of how charities should measure and show the difference they make. We’ve worked incredibly hard to make sure every ounce of our energy goes into maximising the impact of what we do. What fantastic news to bring an award back to this city that puts Plymouth firmly on the map for being so great at making a difference to people’s lives.”  To read the full story visit the Herald's website here

We'd love to showcase more of Plymouth's VCS work and success, please get in touch with us at pop@zebra.coop

In your neighbourhoods

POP has been out to Barne Barton, Devonport, Efford, Ham, Plymstock, Plympton, Southway, Stoke, Stonehouse and Whiteleigh  We are busy mapping the neighbourhoods, but there is always more we need to do!  We've been adding people to our database and onto the google map on our website.  If you are not on our map, please contact us and we can add you to the map.

Don't forget we can also come to you to do some training if your group is stuck on a particular issue or signpost you to our partner organisations; Sustainable Routes for funding advice and the Guild for volunteering support and advice.

Mike writes "I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff in the POP team and the Zebra Collective for the support they have shown me in the last 3 months. Sadly my student placement is coming to an end in the next couple of weeks. I would also like to thank the people and community  groups
I have met along the way; your commitment and enthusiasm has inspired me to become more active within my own community and helped me to understand the nature and context of work within the community and voluntary sector.

Before I finish at the end of May, I would ask any groups operating in the Estover area of Plymouth to contact me as this area will be the last that I 'map' before my placement ends!  Hopefully once my Uni work is completed and handed in I will come back to the POP team as a volunteer!'

What's new?

There is support available from NEW Devon Clinical Commissioning Group (NEW Devon CCG) for Devon Patients and Carers to get the best care from the NHS.

Patients and Carers often ask for help, seek advice, information and support from the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) at NEW Devon CCG especially if they are worried about their care or think that part of the system isn’t working.  Enquirers who call our team are always reassured that they can ask for confidential support, seek answers to their worries and access the necessary help to talk things through so that they can get things sorted and prevent it happening to others.

One caller said  “I am being refused a referral.  Is this because I am old?
We found out about who can have this type of referral and what clinical reasons identify the requirement of a referral.  We passed this information onto the patient who told us that his confidence in local services had been restored.  We also provided information on the condition, contacts for local and national support agencies and factual, clinical advice on managing the condition.  We then reported this patient’s worries to services managers with the ultimate aim of improving the information provided to patients in the future.

If you need help or advice please contact our Patient Advice and Complaints Team (PACT) on 0300 1230 1672 to speak to a member of the team in confidence.  For more information and a supply of leaflets please contact us on the above number or email address pals.devon@nhs.net
