Hi <<First Name>>
How’s April been for you? Ours has been fun, but fitting work around holidays and family is always tricky so getting back to Spike Island and having some space to focus is a relief.
Don’t forget the power of simple one-to-one connections, that’s what’s on our minds this month.
Add genuine value, one-to-one
In the rush for the new and the lure of potentially communicating to millions, sometimes we overlook the place where valuable content is most potent. Instead of just sharing online, why not send it straight to the person who will appreciate it most?
This is a message for us as much as for you! We’re working on some fascinating content projects right now – from exciting tech start ups to established companies that already enjoy a global reach. In the heat of meeting project deadlines and the fire of thinking of new and creative ways to develop outstanding content, we know how easy it is to overlook one of the most basic and brilliant uses for the content in the library.
Sending an ‘I saw this and thought of you’ email, and attaching something that you know is going to genuinely help/entertain is a fantastic way of keeping in touch. The key word is genuine. When you see a connection asking something on Twitter and remember you wrote a blog on that a few months ago, write the email.
The great thing is, it doesn’t even have to be written by you. If it’s heartfelt and useful (and not selly) it will almost certainly be appreciated. What's been your most successful 'Saw this and thought of you' communication? Tell us here.
Learn from Velocity – the superstars of UK content marketing
Our Valuable Content Award this month goes to a business that has taken the principles of ’I saw this and thought of you’ and used it to underpin their content strategy.
Velocity Partners are the superstars of UK content marketing, and their success is powered by a really tight focus on the individuals they want to work with. You can read why they deserve the award here, with a load of ideas to steal for your own content too.
There’s an extended interview with Velocity’s Doug Kessler coming soon, on the thinking behind his approach, and a chance to see him talk at the Bristol Content Group. Watch this space!
Vote for the Valuable Content Marketing book
Some book news. We’re thrilled that the Valuable Content Marketing book has been nominated for a international Small Biz Book Award. If you’d like to vote it for it (voting opens 1st May), you can do that here. We’d be delighted and extremely grateful if you did!

Best wishes
