East Meck HS, McClintock Middle and Rama Elementary (urgently) need EOG proctors!

Please consider helping out for End of Grade exams, the need is great.  Training and refreshments are provided, and you additionally receive the heartfelt appreciation of a classroom teacher.

Rama Elementary testing dates are 5/23, 5/27, 5/28, 5/29 and 5/30 from 7:30-11:30am. Contact Deanna  Chillemi by email or by phone, (980) 343-6730.

McClintock Middle needs proctors for 5/23 (need 17 more!), 5/27 (need 12 more!) and 5/28 from 8:30am until 1pm. You can sign up using this link, or email Summer Rogers with questions. 

East Mecklenburg's exams are June 2, 3, 6 and 9 from 7am-10am. To sign up please call Julia Mercabi at (980) 343-6430, or contact her by email.

MERIDIAN PLACE UPDATE.  The official groundbreaking ceremony was this week, and the new signs are up. Demolition of the old Silver Oaks apartments is under way, and construction of the new M Station apartments will begin right away, taking 12-18 months to complete.

Neighborhood focus groups, when asked what grocery store they'd like to see at Meridian Place, overwhelmingly said Trader Joe's was their number one choice. Want to support bring Trader Joe's to our community?  Click here.

Animation Eureka Summer Camp 

Camp Eureka is sponsoring three exciting 1-week computer camps that will take place at McClintock Middle School this summer:  Game Development Level I, Game Development Level II, and Animation.  These camps are led by Dr. Farhad Javidi from CPCC, one of the leaders in the field of game development.  Cost is $275 for the full day 1 week camps.  Further information is on the attached flyer, seats are limited.

Summer Internships for High School or College Students

Do you know a high school or college student with 2 or 4 or more weeks available to help with a McPIE (McClintock Partners in Education) Summer Day Camp?  Interns are needed to help with the Sixth Grade Science Sleuths Camp and the McClintock Summer Science Experience Camp (7th & 8th grades). There will be lots of hands-on fun activities and a chance to visit a virtual reality lab or a NASCAR facility. Choose Session One (June 30 - July 11 (off July 4)) or Session Two (July 21 - August 1) or both.  Also, one intern is needed to serve as the Assistant Camp Coordinator, which would begin in late May/early June through August 1 (time off when camp is not in session is flexible).  All positions are unpaid but recommendations and references are gladly provided for future applications and jobs.  Interested? Solarize Charlotte

Solarize Charlotte is a nonprofit coalition of environmental groups encouraging residents to add solar panels to their homes. The local Sierra Club will highlight their effort at their May 28 meeting at 7pm, at the Mahlon Adams Pavilion at Freedom Park, 2435 Cumberland Ave.
