Walking for A Million Lunches

Feeding Cincinnati's Children over Summer Break

Lisa Hyde-Hill, Childhood Food Solutions co-founder, is on her way to fulfilling a promise she made in eighth grade. She promised if the Lord would allow her to find a way to feed hungry children she would devote the rest of her life to the cause.

It’s a topic she’s all too familiar with. The first six years of Lisa’s life were spent worrying where her next meal would come from. Lisa’s mom struggled to make ends meet as a nurse working third shift, raising four kids and a husband deployed in Vietnam.

After six long years, Lisa’s dad returned from Vietnam severely disabled. The government started sending disability checks that changed the family’s life. They consistently had food, bought a house and a car, and experienced the simple joys in life that food security and shelter can bring.

Their lifestyle changed for the better, but they didn't forget about those still struggling. They began giving back to the community by donating money, food, clothing and more. Lisa co-founded Childhood Food Solutions (CFS) in 2007. It was a major step in helping fight childhood hunger. A call from Senator Eric Kearney was another milestone. She was asked to be a keynote speaker at his annual Walk for Children’s Health and share about CFS. The next year she joined Senator Kearney on his walk to spread the word about childhood food insecurity.

This will be Lisa’s sixth year participating in the walk.

Summer Campaign Launched

Why a million lunches?

CFS co-founder, Tony Fairhead, calculated that during the summer break it will take a million lunches to feed the children that normally rely on lunch assistance. Our goal is to provide those million lunches and keep children from hunger during the summer months. Raising awareness at the walk is our step in achieving our goal.
