Registration now Open: 2014 Inclusion BC Conference: "Tides of Change: Justice, Diversity and Inclusion for All" - Nanaimo, BC
Inclusion BC will host its 2014 Conference, "Tides of Change: Justice, Diversity and Inclusion for All" in Nanaimo, British Columbia from June 11-14, 2014.  The Inclusion BC conference is BC’s premier conference addressing current trends and issues to advance the rights and opportunities of people with developmental disabilities and their families. REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN! Keynotes include: Denise Bissonnette, Cindy Blackstock, John Radford, barbara findlay, Grand Chief Stewart Phillip, Alison Taplay and more. The murder-suicide of Prince Rupert residents Angie Robinson and her son Robert, who had autism, is a tragedy beyond comprehension.Underneath these terrible events lies the fact that they are completely preventable; access to services and support for families and people with developmental disabilities are woefully inadequate. Repeated calls for help over time by Ms. Robinson and her family went unheard, or were not acted upon in time. Read more...

2014 BC Budget: Inclusion BC Analysis
The 2014 budget includes a long-awaited substantial investment in Community Living BC over a four-year period, amounting to $219 million projected additional funding from 2014 through 2016 over previously announced funding plans. This represents a steady increase in CLBC funding which will work to address increasing caseload pressure, as more people receive CLBC-funded services. Inclusion BC expresses its appreciation to the Provincial Government for this important investment. We are pleased to see that people with disabilities and their families are front and center in the provincial budget. Read more...

Inclusion BC congratulates all parties on the ratification of a five-year contract in the community social services sector in British Columbia. It is particularly important that the government has expressed its commitment to fully fund the agreement. Read more...
 

2014/15 Federal Budget includes significant investment in national Ready, Willing & ABLEIn its 2014/15 Budget, the Federal Government today announced a significant investment in the community inclusion movement, through our national federation, the Canadian Association for Community Living. "This is a tremendously important opportunity and occasion for our movement; most importantly, it means more and more people with developmental disabilities will enter the work force," said Faith Bodnar, Executive Director of Inclusion BC. Summer Institute: Creating the Future - Partnerships for Inclusive Learning
Creating the Future- Partnerships for Inclusive Learning is a summer conference designed to provide a robust learning environment that will facilitate strategic approaches to inclusion and belonging for all students in B.C.’s elementary and secondary schools.This three-day conference will take place on August 25-27, 2014  at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. Participants will include administrators, teachers, parents, paraprofessionals, therapists and other members of a school based team. Adult Special Education at Douglas College is investigating expanding skills, education and training options for individuals with barriers or a disability and needs your input. We are looking to get information on identifying skills training programs here at Douglas for students in Adult Special Education. The online survey is voluntary, confidential and anonymous and will take about 10 minutes to complete. Your participation is very much appreciated! Your responses to the survey need to be in no later than May 11th, 2014.
