With this choral masterpiece, Monteverdi forged a dramatic and vivid new musical style, evoking the struggle between the archaic and the revolutionary. Performed by seven vocal soloists, renowned chamber choir Apollo’s Singers, and an orchestra of period instruments including sackbuts and cornetti.

The Galileo Project

A fusion of arts, science and culture from the 17th and 18th centuries featuring poetic narration, choreography and music by Monteverdi, Vivaldi, Bach and Handel performed to a backdrop of images from the Hubble telescope. Individual tickets are only available from Da Camera of Houston. Our subscribers receive a significant discount on preferred seating for this concert.

Audience favorite El Mundo returns with a celebration of Christmas music from Italy, Spain and Latin America. For our holiday program El Mundo will present newly discovered and transcribed works by Salazar, Zipoli, and others and a short mass discovered in the archives of a California mission.

 

 

CIARAMELLA
Make a Joyful Noise

Burgundian alta capella ensembles piped across Renaissance Europe from Antwerp to Zaragosa, improvising florid polyphony over songs, dances, and sacred chant. Ciaramella takes shawms, recorders, bagpipes and sackbuts in hand, bringing their joyful noise to life. A main-stage concert for the 2015 Houston Early Music Festival.

Winners of the Audience Prize at the 2012 Early Music America Baroque Performance Competitions, this dynamic new ensemble of two violins, cello and harpsichord performs works by J.S. Bach, Handel, Buxtehude, Rosenmuller, Erlebach and Telemann.

 

 

QUICKSILVER
Stile Moderno, New Music from the 17th Century

Quicksilver

“Revered like rock stars within the early music scene” according to The New York Times, Quicksilver vibrantly explores the rich chamber music repertoire of the early modern period. Works by Castello, Fontana, Merula, Marini and others performed on baroque violins, cello, sackbut and harpsichord.


Ticket purchase covers only a fraction of the costs of bringing early music performances to Houston. Your donation, in any amount, will enable us to continue to present the finest performances of early music.
