You gotta hold on to His promises...

Update April 2014

Keeping our eyes on things above.

Hi <<Preferred Name>>

There has been so much going on since our previous update. Our work in the neighborhood has been blossoming and we have new friends and partners join our work with Youth Street.

Youth Street: Spring Break
This past week was spring break! With no school for our neighborhood youth, we were able to hold 3 Youth Street events in one week! From water fights to an epic scavenger hunt, it was a groundbreaking week as we got to go so much deeper into the lives of these crew and their families. We have been blessed to have Jairo and Lourdes, who work with Servant Partners, in our neighborhood and their heart to minister to the Youth Street families is such a blessing. To know a family with such a heart for the Lord and His people are here ministering is such an incredible answer to prayer, not to mention they are Spanish speaking!

Not easy but worth it.
Some days are spent hanging on to the promises while others are full of joy as we see His favor and goodness in full sight. I treasure the hard days, the days when you hang on, trusting in Him, those are the days that you draw close and feel Him near. Knowing the pressure that we feel is nothing compared to what Jesus experienced gives us hope that if we hold on, we get to see our resurrection Sunday :) That thought is so comforting, and with it, we renew our strength in the Lord and push on.

What's Next?
We are in the midst of exploring leasing a space that we will be able to run Youth Street and DTS, in our neighborhood. We hope to find a building that will also be able to hold our offices and possibly some accommodation as well. If you are stirred to help us in finding something we would be grateful for the assistance. We have a few decent options, one in particular, that we are seriously looking at. If you have on your heart to give a gift towards us securing the property contact us, we trust that as we step out, He will meet the financial side of things. To arrange a Tax-deducible gift towards YWAM Ember Ink please click here. If you would like to have a look at our fundraising goal I would be happy to email you the document so you are aware of the specific plans.

Please be praying for us as we discern the way forward.

Blessings,
Luke and Angela

Haythorpe Happenings

Bullying
Recently we have had some issues with one of our children getting severely bullied at school. While this can be common, we are learning as parents to protect and equip our children through this hard experience. Please pray for us and our children as we have discovered that the more we see God move in our lives the more persecution we begin to receive. Our hope and prayer through it all is that the children in question would be transformed and we would grow as well.

Hillary!
We are blessed to have Hillary staying with us and helping with Youth Street for 3 months. Hillary is on her DTS (Discipleship Training School) in San Francisco and is doing her outreach portion with us. She is from Columbia and has been such an incredible blessing already!

Burbs
Our suburban has served us VERY well but she is out of action with a bad transmission. Thankfully we have a borrowed car but unfortunately we cannot all fit in it so travel has to be very strategic right now. This is just another one of those things we feel warfare in as we move forward in ministry. We'd appreciate prayer as we're feeling it in ALL areas, even transportation.

Finance News

This Month
----------------------------------
We've added this section in to be transparent with all of you as you invest in prayer and finances with us.
----------------------------------
I've just updated our urgent needs section of our website. If you are in a position to help us this month please check out our needs here.

On a Mission to get a Transmission
Lately, our car has not been in the greatest condition. It has been leaking oil among other issues (like the transmission) and has been quoted at $3500 to get it back working properly.
>>Details are on the urgent needs section of our website.

Thanks for your partnership!
We are incredibly grateful for the continued generosity of you who partner with us in finance and prayer! We've been praying a double portion on each person!

We are so blessed to have a network of people who believe in us, our family, our calling, and our ministry. We couldn't/can't do this without you!

Please continue to pray for us as we see more friends join our support team, it takes courage and faith for all of us to trust God with our finances!

Ministry Matters

Please be praying for us as we continue to build Ember Ink, from the ground up. As I write this, our staff are at our kitchen table, framing pictures to give to parents of their children involved in Youth Street.  It is a small way to show our appreciation for the trust the families show in us by allowing us into their lives, we are very grateful. Our hope is that as we continue to build relationships we will see doors open for us to spread God's love.

Saying Goodbye
This past week we said farewell to Raphael who has been on staff serving with YWAM Ember Ink since July 2012. We are going to miss him tons, Rapha poured his heart and soul into the ministry and our family for the past few years and we are SO grateful for his obedience in joining us for these difficult yet worthwhile pioneering stages.

Youth Street
Youth Street is a long term strategy to reach unchurched young people with the Love of Christ. This values based program is aimed at creating an environment and relationships with young people to help them navigate a generally difficult and complex stage of life between 7-18.

Right now, we have a regular attendance of 25 youth for Youth Street. Please continue to pray as we pour into these lives and families.

Prayer Requests

Family:
Xavier's Development - This guy is shining right now and is such a joy to be around. He has made huge strides developmentally with his education as well as socially. He has had a few weeks out of school so the house has been a little crazy. It would be an understatement to say that we can't wait for school to start up again ;)

Rest - I know it isn't surprising or new information, but Angela and I are really tired at the moment. We are discerning the best way for us to stay healthy amongst a full schedule with the many demands of ministry AND family. We're hoping that as summer begins it will be a great opportunity for us to take some time to catch up with friends as well as do things that refresh us. We always welcome your prayer.

Ministry:
Fundraising -  As this YWAM ministry grows, we are tenaciously seeking and leaning more on the Lord. To move us forward and prepare for this exciting next season of growth in ministry we are believing God to release funds to be able to lease a facility by July. This is a BIG faith step but we know it will enable us to have much more impact in the community. It will also enable to move offices out of our home which is important for our family.

Staff Housing - As we grow, we need to see some permanent housing for our long term staff. We'd appreciate prayer as we really want/need it to be God to led in location, rent, landlord, neighbors and in timing. With up to 6 staff joining us in July please pray for us to walk through the best doors!
