Cybersecurity and stress

From background checks and airport scanners to alarm systems and network firewalls, our lives are frequently touched by security mechanisms put in place to protect us. But can too much security actually cause us stress? It’s a possibility, says new research by John D’Arcy, an assistant professor in the Department of Accounting and MIS.

Student savers

U.S. Sen. Chris Coons visited students at Shortlidge Elementary Academy last week as part of Teach Children to Save Day (TCTSD), in which UD's Center for Economic Education and Entrepreneurship is a partner. Coons was one of several hundred guest presenters, most of whom hail from the Delaware banking community, who visited nearly 300 classrooms reaching over 8,000 students over the course of TCTSD.

May 7: Tyler Lecture

Business journalist Ron Insana, invited lecturer at the next Chaplin Tyler Executive Leadership Series, has interviewed world leaders, billionaire investors and captains of industry including former President Bill Clinton, Warren Buffett, Bill Gates and Queen Raina of Jordan. Insana’s presentation, which is free and open to the public, will be held at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 7, in 115 Purnell Hall. Attendees are asked to register in advance online.

Matthew Robinson, Business Administration

Matthew Robinson, professor of sport management and chairman of the Delaware Sports Commission, published an op-ed, "College athletics work for the many, not the few," that appeared in the News Journal.

 

 

Bonnie Meszaros, CEEE

Bonnie Meszaros, associate director, Center for Economic Education and Entrepreneurship, and Ronni Cohen, UD alumna and executive director, Delaware Financial Literacy Institute, jointly received a 2014 Excellence in Financial Literacy Education (EIFLE) award for their Bank At School program at the Institute for Financial Literacy's annual conference in New Orleans on April 9.

Mark Serva, Accounting & MIS

Mark Serva, associate professor, has been invited to be the problem-based learning (PBL) expert with the Latin American Scholarship Program of American Universities (LASPAU). LASPAU is affiliated with Harvard University and works with institutions in South America and the Caribbean to improve student learning.
