1) Network Managers’ Meeting and Training course on Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Plans – 23 to 25 April 2014, Delft, The Netherlands.

Managers from Cap-Net affiliated networks met at Delft, The Netherlands, April 23-25, to revise and agree on practices for monitoring impact, assessing performance, and elaborating learning plans for increased efficiency in capacity development. Sessions were guided by Cap-Net’s “MELP -Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Plan”; a document prepared to ensure adequate monitoring of the project and assist partner networks monitor their own activities. The MELP consists of 5 tools to be applied by the by the project management team and network partners towards output areas as efficiency of networks, knowledge management, and capacity development delivery.
 
The 3-day training course in Delft allowed sharing of experiences and profound analysis of methods and strategies to ap ply these tools, and the relevance of the information both for the success of the networks as well as for the Cap-Net Programme. Participating network managers have reached consensus on the relevance of these tools and methodologies for application thus setting the goal for the end of 2014 that each partner network will have an available MELP report.

2) Africa-Asia Drought Risk Management Peer Assistance Network (AADP) Newsletter.
   

A regional ToT course on Water Integrity was held in Angra dos Reis, Brazil, April 7-11. The course was targeted at participants from Brazil and other Latin America countries, and one participant from Cape Verde, thus setting the basis for follow up activities in Africa. The course was part of the active collaboration between LA-WETnet; Cap-Net Brazil; Cap-Net; Water Governance Facility at SIWI; and the TRAALO Initiative from UNDP´s Regional Centre for Latin America.
 
Frederik Boehm, Jan Teun Visscher, Damian Indij (LA-WETnet); Maria Jacobson (Water Governance Facility at SIWI), and Gerardo Berthin (UNDP Panama)  formed as the team of trainers with experience in the development of water integrity training manuals, mapping processes, and courses delivery in Latin America, Africa, and the Arab Region.
 
Participants presented various actions plan for increased capacity development for water integrity in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica and Central America, Mexico, Paraguay, and Peru. These plans included ‘face-to-face’ and virtual trainings, as well as tailor made activities for specific recipients as river basin organisations, and diverse water agencies. These activities will be followed up by LA-WETnet, ArgCap-Net, REDICA, REMERH, and Cap-Net Brazil, all Cap-Net partner networks in Latin America.
 
Findings from the 2013 mapping report and inputs from ToT participants have shown that Latin America is a region with fertile ground for promoting integrity in the water sector, not only as an ethical position but also as a tool to improve water use management at local, national and regional levels.

6) 1st African Water Integrity Learning Summit “Accelerating Towards a Water Secure World” - 29 to 30 April, Lusaka, Zambia.

The Water Integrity Summit: Accelerating Towards a Water Secure World was held from 29 to 30 of April 2014 in Lusaka, Zambia. This event has brought together water sector stakeholders from Western, Southern and Eastern Africa who have been trained in water integrity over the last three years. It served to encourage and stimulate dialogue on learning how corruption can be addressed in the water sector at a regional and national level. Dr. Bekithemba Gumbo, Director of Cap-Net UNDP presented a 'Stimulus Talk' on Building Integrity Capacity in Southern Africa.

The main theme of the summit is "Accelerating Towards a Water Secure World". This comprises of three sub-themes: 

1. Demonstration of Social Accountability Tools
2. Developing infrastructure and integrity hand in hand?
3. Building water integrity capacities

7) Regional Training Workshop on IWRM as a Tool for Adaptation to Climate Change from 30 April to 4 May 2014, to be held in Nairobi, Kenya. 

The workshop will be organized by the GWP Eastern Africa Secretariat, in collaboration with Nile IWRM, Cap-Net and WMO.
 
The objective is to build capacity at regional and national levels to ensure that stakeholders in the water resources sector have increased knowledge of how best to address local and regional challenges of climate change in water resources planning and management. This includes identifying the opportunities for vulnerable communities to adapt to climate change by applying IWRM as a tool for adaptation. The anticipated outcome of the training course is “Improved technical and institutional capacities for identifying, prioritizing and implementing cost effective adaptive measures in the water sector and related sectors”
 
The training course is expected to involve middle level managers from national water authorities and other sectors in the Nile basin, professionals and practitioners working in relevant organizations and regional bodies.
