Making 3D printable mounts for your GoPro / Contour HD Cameras

So here at You3Dit, we occasionally partake in extreme sports. And since our friends never believe we’re that cool, we often find ourselves capturing video of the action. Today, there are two major Point of View (POV) or “helmet camera” manufacturers: Contour.com and GoPro.com and while they have a variety of standard mounts, they can’t possibly predict all the crazy weird places we’d like to put their cameras. Enter 3D printers and You3Dit.

Thus, this month’s Make Anything, Anywhere Blog is all about 3D CAD designed and printed camera mounts in two extreme sports: skateboarding and mountain biking.

Although it was some time ago, Chris—our co-founder—had the opportunity to work with Fox News and the founders of Z-Boards electric skateboards to film a news story on their company. It seems we’re all in the game for finding the best camera angle for our GoPros and ContourHD cameras. In our limited experience here, we’ve found that a “fixed reference” with moving scenery in the background really makes for a cool camera angle, but we don’t always have a way to mount the camera to our mountain bikes, motorcycles, etc. Watch videos and read more about how we 3D printed a water-bottle bike mount.
