Pittsburgh -- Pioneering Kids' Digital Literacy

(Harvard Family Research Project) Kids these days are part of what's being called the "touch-screen generation" -- they're using technology more than ever before. Kids are spending so much time using computers and iPads -- who's to say parents can't put that time to good use?

Lately, Pittsburgh has become a center for educational innovation. New programs involving children, parents, and technological literacy have been popping up all over town! There's the Fred Rogers Center-backed Early Learning Environment, a web based digital literacy hub for teachers and families; Carnegie Library's My Story Maker, a game-based approach to digital literacy and storytelling; and the Message from Me program which seeks to enable children to more easily communicate their daytime activities to parents with the use of technology. These types of programs and more can all be found throughout the Pittsburgh area, with more being created all the time.

Gregg Behr writes about these programs and more in his article Transforming Pittsburgh into Kidsburgh, which you can read by clicking here.
