Plug Into Nature - June 2014Preserves Activities Volunteer
 
This Saturday, June 7 is National Trails Day, so make plans to visit one of our Preserves! Votes are still being counted for Measure AA—thank you for your support! You can learn more about Midpen through our Major Accomplishments Report and at our Transparency Portal.  Find out how the District is working in partnership with researchers from academic institutions through our Research Management Grant Program.   As always, our FREE docent-led activities offer ample opportunities for you to get out and enjoy your Open Space Preserves!

Measure AA

Midpen’s Measure AA for regional open space access, preservation and restoration bond was on the June 3, 2014 ballot.  As of late Wednesday evening, June 4, 2014, Measure AA is leading with 66.8 percent of the vote. It requires 66.7 percent approval to pass. At this time, there are still provisional ballots and mail-in ballots to be counted, but we hope to have the final tally soon. Stay tuned. We’ll update our website on a regular basis.

Mt. UmunhumMajor Accomplishments

The District recently released the Fiscal Year 2013-14 Accomplishments Report, presenting the results of Midpen’s overall endeavor during the past year to manage the regional open space preserves on behalf of the public. Over 130 accomplishments are listed by major category: Public Access and Recreation, Restoration and Protection, Acquisition, and General (for operational and support activities).

Research GrantsResource Management Grants

Midpen funds academic research projects relevant to its mission of environmental education and sound resource stewardship. Grants were recently awarded for fire weather monitoring, wildlife studies, and archeological studies.

Outdoor ActivitiesJune Journeys

As Summer heats up our FREE docent-led adventures allow you to soak up the sun or lead you along shaded trails to beat the valley heat! 

Whether it be on two wheels or two legs, we have an activity for you to enjoy this month.  Search for summer wildflowers, stroll along the San Andreas Fault, ride the single-track trails of Monte Bello or look for birds and butterflies.

Summer Camp


Bugs, birds, plants, creeks and more! Join Midpen, the Santa Clara Audubon Society, Shoreline at Mountain View and our many naturalist experts as we explore the wonderful natural world around us - a great chance to be outdoors and get dirty!

Open to all children entering grade 2 - 6 in the Fall 2014.
$295/child (family discounts and scholarships available)
