Hello MLC Community,

Thank you for your support of our great organization!  We come to you with exciting opportunities to help us grow!  We are seeking volunteers to help us spread our reach even further. There are two ways to volunteer:
  1. The MLC Project Committee receives many requests from government agencies, non-profit organizations and businesses throughout Michigan to help implement lean principles.  We provide MLC volunteers to assist with these projects and we are asking you to be one of those volunteers. The time ranges from a few hours a week to a few hours per month.
  2. In addition, the MLC Event Committee plans and coordinates lean learning events that help Michigan organizations pursue excellence and make our state the best place in the country to live, learn, and earn. We are also seeking volunteers to assist in planning events.
To take advantage of this great opportunity, please fill out the survey by clicking on the link if you are interested in volunteering.

Here’s what we know about the project work:
1. The time commitment varies depending on the nature of the project.  At one extreme, some volunteers may only be involved for intermittent coaching sessions, which may typically be completed by telephone.  Other projects may involve speaking engagements or training sessions up to several days in duration, with commensurate prep time.
2. Volunteers have reported benefits including expansion of their personal business network, skill building, and exposure to new industries as a result of their volunteer efforts.
3. The partner organization completes a detailed scoping document before MLC assigns resources to a project.  We will know expected dates, time commitments, and requested skills before asking a volunteer to commit their time to a project.
4. Costs for mileage and any necessary supplies can be reimbursed

Here’s what we know about the Event Committee:
  1. The time commitment varies depending on volunteer availability and interest.  Volunteers do attend monthly meetings (currently via telephone on 3rd Thursday from 5:00-6:00).  Possible assignments:
  • Follow up on leads for an event speaker,
  • Follow up on leads for an event location; a business or organization that is interested in  hosting an event by providing meeting space and equipment
  • Follow established protocol to plan an event working with the speaker, host and MLC Coordinator. (MLC Coordinator is a resource for event lead to post event, manage registration, advertise and communicate with registrants, etc).
  • Attend the event to assist MLC Coordinator with registration and other tasks as needed.
2. Volunteers have reported benefits including expansion of their personal business network, skill building, and exposure to new industries as a result of their volunteer efforts.
When we have more information, we will communicate it to those interested in lending support as soon as possible.  Please note that there will be a vetting process done by the MLC committees to match skillsets with the appropriate needs.

Please fill out the survey in the link below ONLY if you are interested in volunteering. This is a great opportunity to use your skills to benefit our great state and continue to spread lean principles.
