7:00 A.M. THIS SATURDAY, WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Early Saturday morning, we expect a large delivery of plants, soil and mulch largely funded with a Neighborhood Grant awarded Elizabeth Street Garden by Citizens Committee for New York City.

We need your help from 7:00 a.m. – noon to unload the truck, spread bags of soil and place plants in garden beds. We need help most on the earlier side, to unload and neatly organize supplies, so please call your friends, and come out with your neighbors as early as you can to help!

Next weekend—Saturday and Sunday mornings, we'll plant, spread mulch and prepare new beds for seeding...and of course, there is always necessary watering.
P.S. 1 ALFRED E. SMITH PENNY HARVEST SPRING PLANTING
Tuesday, in support of their Common Cents Penny Harvest project, elementary school students from neighborhood P.S. 1 visited the Garden both to learn about and plant flowering perennials that support our local bee and butterfly communities. The Penny Harvest team enjoyed finding worms in the dirt and taking home freshly potted seeds. We all look forward to watching their plantings grow.

Thank you to the team; Eleanor Christian and Harriet Savitz, P.S. 1 Penny Harvest teacher/coaches; and Emily Helström for leading the activity for the Garden.

If your local school group is interested in our summer-long, Citizens Committee-supported Bees, Butterflies & Worms neighborhood-led initiative to educate both children and adults about eco-gardening, habitat creation, urban wildlife and sustainable stewardship, please contact us.

A Particular Kind of Solitude, inspired by the writings of Robert Walser and curated by Serra Sabuncuoglu, is a site-specific exhibition engaging more than 50 artists, writers, readers, musicians, dancers and filmmakers. The early twentieth-century Swiss author has become something of a hero, or anti-hero for writers and artists over the last few decades. Much of his work and philosophies rest on the quiet magic and personal fulfillment of walking; the urban experience is full of such walks, and this is often how people discover Elizabeth Street Garden.

Spring Art Exhibition on view Saturday, May 10 – Sunday, June 1
Wednesdays – Sundays, noon – 6:00 p.m.

LAST SATURDAY'S STORYTIME WITH McNALLY JACKSON BOOKS

Last Saturday, local bookseller McNally Jackson Books was back in the Garden for the first time this year for a truly unique event. The young and young-at-heart met Richard T. Morris, author of This Is a Moose. Richard read, told moose tales, signed books and helped kids create moose-related treasure. A special thanks to Yvonne Brooks who organized the event.
MAY IS LOWER EAST SIDE HISTORY MONTH

In celebration of Lower East Side History Month, the Garden joined other LES organizations, in collaboration with the Museum of Reclaimed Urban Space, and exhibited a Garden Clothesline illustrating the history of the site as a social and civic center for our community. The Clothesline will hang through the month of May. Please stop by, and check it out.
