Since our last newsletter, we’ve been very busy and we’re excited to share some really great news this time round.
Here are some of things we cover:

Dovedale Dipper, Sun Aug 3rd 2014
We’re extremely proud to have been selected as the beneficiary charity for this year’s Dovedale Dipper. This 26 mile circular run or walk, or shorter 15 mile ramble through the beautiful Derbyshire Peak District National Park is an annual event organised by the Rotary Club of Matlock.
Trustees, John, Sam and Steph are donning their hiking boots to raise some funds and awareness, but there are still plenty of places left for all distances and disciplines.
The route starts from Hartington Town Hall and visits the Dove and Manifold Valleys as well as some Staffordshire Moorland.
Entry fee £16 per person and all entry fee profits go to Kenyan Educational Support, but of course we’ll be encouraging people to get sponsorship for us as well!

Now accepting online donations
We can now accept online donations thanks to My Donate from BT. A link is on our website or you can go direct from here. You can even set up to donate through sponsored events too. If you do want to enter the Dovedale Dipper, we’d be extremely grateful if you collect your sponsorship for KES using this site. It’s simple, free and even collects gift aid on our behalf.
BDA scholars’ national exam success
We’re delighted to say that two more of the sponsored scholars have scored so well in the national exams (end of Primary) this year, that they’ve been offered places in National Schools.
 At the end of 2012 Margaret Kuria became the first student at BDA primary to score so well to get offered a place at Kenya Girls High School. This is no mean feat. Such places are highly prized. This school (which Nicky and Simon visited in October) is in the top 5 schools of the country. It’s on a fabulous campus in a tranquil enclave near the centre of a bustling Nairobi and was built a hundred years ago as a British girls’ public school. It runs on similar lines today, providing an education for the highest performing of Kenya's girls.
 At the end of 2013 (which is the end of the academic year in Kenya) two more sponsored girls were offered places. Rael Atieno (sponsored by Nicky) scored so well she was offered a place at Nakuru Girls High School, another of the limited number of National Schools.
 Meanwhile Mary Awino (sponsored by Sue Watson) also scored so well that she was offered a place at one of the top 'provincial schools' Ng'iya Girls High School at Kisumu.
Although the fees for attending such a school are partly subsidised by the government this subsidy has shrunk and is only about 15% of the fees. Happily the balance equates pretty much to the sponsor's commitment and so we’re able to continue sponsoring the scholars through their further education.
Of course it’s not only KES, the trustees and sponsors who are delighted by their success but it’s great news for BDA. The success that the school is having in the national exams - the KCPE - has helped greatly in making BDA a school where fee paying parents are now keen to send their kids.
So here's hoping for further success at the end of this year. Oh and come on lads, isn't it time there was a boy joining these three successful girls in this particular roll of honour?

 We’d like to pass on our thanks and lots of best wishes to Ravin Jethwa who’s bravely tackling not just one, but two marathons this year and raising funds for us. Ravin ran the BUPA 10,000 on May 25th 2014 and will be running the Cardiff Half Marathon on October 5th 2014.

Just a reminder at this time of year – when thoughts turn to ‘self assessment’. If you’re paying higher rate tax – don’t forget to include your donations on your tax return to get the higher rate relief.
